Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing hiking trail, absolutely not to be missed! Start from the hotel and go clockwise. The first 1-2 km is when you do the climbing, and there are some steep steps. I wouldn’t take small children here. Then you go around the views and they are superb.

This is a pleasant walk, by a stream with cascades, bridges and cliff-walkways. It isn't long, perhaps only 15 minutes each way to the largest waterfall.

The cascades/waterfalls are not in themselves that impressive, but its more the overall impression of the walk.

Just before you go under the viaduct, there is a small hill you can go up with a nice view.

A very nice place to hike very close to Freiburg. We hiked up the gorge and came back via Hinterzarten, which is a very nice roundtrip.

Beautiful walk through the forest alongside a babbling brook and waterfalls. Nice and shady on a hot day. Be sure to wear the right footwear because there are a lot of places where it is rocky or with tree roots. Bear in mind it is fairly steep uphill in many places (downhill on the return!) including some steep stairs. Tends to get very busy in Summer, which means occasional short waits at the narrow bridges and steps, so its popularity is its only downfall.

If you found my review helpful I would appreciate your vote.

On our way from Freiburg to Titisee we walked the Ravennaschlucht. We were early and still very quite. Parking is free and there was enough space. Just before the gorge starts there is the well-known large bridge you walk under. The path is well maintained. Especially the forest part of the gorge is beautiful when the sun comes trough the trees. It is not an intense or hard walk, especially compared to other gorges where you mostly walk between rocks. No large waterfalls or anything of that in this gorge. We walked the same way back. Later on the day it gets crowded .

The stop at the Hofgut Sternen hotel and shop complex was part of our Viking Rhine River cruise excursion our last afternoon before our final destination of Basel. We chose the guided hike up the trail with an audio tour by the guide rather than other activities in the tourist complex. A short way up the trail we were turned loose on our own to return to the shops or continue up the trail as far as we wanted. My wife and I, along with several other couples chose to keep hiking. Our goal was to make it to the observation area the guide mentioned, but that proved to be impossible given our time constraints. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful hike along the river in almost a haunting forest atmosphere, climbing stairs and crossing several bridges. We hike regularly, but are in our late 50's, and we considered it easy, although a bit slippery because of the drizzle that day. Perhaps someday we can return and hike all the way to the top.

It was a spontaneous visit and a perfect timing as it was the last day of the Christmas market. The place just looks so magical with the wooden huts below the lighted railway aqueduct and a high Christmas tree. There are also some lights in the woods making it look mysterious.

The huts sell regional arts and stuff while some sell regional goodies. You can enjoy it at the tables around the area beside the bonfire.

They are only open on weekends and there is a minimal entrance fee. There are free parking spaces and you just need to walk up from there. We also saw some buses going to the city center.

It is worth a visit and best time is at night due to the lights and surely more magical with some snow!

very recommended. We made it in less than an hour, a group of 8 oldies ( 70+ years old). started near the hausketterer cafe, going down towards the hotel.

After visiting the Black Forest Village Demonstration Center & Museum we went downstairs to eat. It was a buffet style with a moderate amount of selections & variety. The dining area was fairly large & very clean. It was nicly decorated in a German theme. I had a hearty bowl of stew. My husband had roast & scalloped potatoes. The portions of both of meals were very generous. He made the mistake of letting me taste his. It was so good that even though I was not at all hungry I kept asking for more bites. We were to full to try their famous black forest cake. Some of the other people on our tour tried it & said it was as tasty as it looked.

Trail along the creek about 3-4 hours in total, with small waterfalls, wooden bridges, steep stairs. Not circular. At the end of the track there is a small coffee shop where you can buy an ice cream and prepare your way back. On the way we harvested forest mushrooms and some raspberry.
