Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was good, enjoyed walking on the beach, white sand, sand dune, clear sky, see the sunset. The location is approx 10 km from the centre of small town, Foxton. It should be a safe beach, there is a Surf Rescue Patrol at certain schedule of the day, all good.

Foxton Beach is a great place for people who are able to enjoy nature in its many aspects. Swimming, surfing and kite boarding are popular in summer and the beach is patrolled by the surf club in high summer. Beach surf casting and other methods of fishing attract a following and it is possible to launch boats off the beach but this is better done from launch ramps in the estuary taking care with the bar and tides, seek local advice.
Dog walking and horse training are a feature, dogs are permitted off lead, race horses tend to gallop regardless of other beach users, take care.
Vehicles can be driven on the beach upto 30km/h but must follow alll road rules.
Views can be amazing dependent on the conditions, it is possible to see Mt Taranaki towards the North West 185 kms, D'Urville Island 115 kms West and I have seen Tapua-O-Uenuku 215 kms to the South, never all on the same day. But no doubt others have.
Ocean Beach Eatery is handy at the foot of the approach road, no refreshments are available on the beach but toilets are in the surf club building and foot washing is provided at the car park beach front.
The wetlands behind the beach are a world heritage nature site with numerous species of birds depending on the time of year.

Park the car and walk along the estuary to the sea. The locals talk about walking the 'loop' from the estuary to the surf club. At low tide you can walk out to the point where Kapati Island can be seen. On a clear day Mt Taranaki can be seen as it appears to rise from the sea. The wide open spaces free your mind and sole while the salt spray enters your lungs and the sand tickles your toes. Birds scatter and squawk as dogs run towards them. Simply Balmy has a delicious menu to match any city dining experience. For those wanting a takeaway meal to eat on the beach while watching the sun go down, you can't beat Mr Grumpies Takeaways. While at the beach it's a short trip to Foxton where there is a New World supermarket, Hammer hardware, pharmacy and other essential shops. Visit the De Mollen wind mill where flours are made and sold or the Dutch Shop on the main road.

Foxton Beach is good for a bathing and beach type holiday when the weather is warm. But when we visited in September the estuary and coastline was bleak. It is a good place for a day's drive or outing at this time of year but there is little to do outside when the weather is consistently adverse.

You can't go far wrong with Foxton Beach, its beautiful and long edged with sand dunes. You can sit and watch the sea and swim or walk down to the estuary and round via the bar (the sea bar not the pub) and watch the wild life.

The beach is a public road and while the speed limit is 30 you still have to watch out for cars/bikes etc. There is a cafe just 5 minutes walk from the beach which is open every day during the summer months but closed Mon/Tues the other months. They also have an ice cream stand there over the summer months.

Parking the car at the surf club carpark - a walk south to the river mouth and them up to the bird sanctury and back along the road will take you just over an hour. A pleasant walk.

I have never seen so much drift wood before. Love the speed signs on the beach, great to go for a drive on the beach with the windows open wide, awesome fun. Walk up the dunes and see if you can spot any part of the old shipwreck. The black sand is unusual. Great photo opportunities.

Also just wanted to know when it mentions the surf beach club if its talking about the area when you first drive into foxton beach onto the car park with the building loacated on the right hand side that overlooks the beach or if it some other area somewere down the beach and also if my dog would be allowed on or off leash in that carpark/beach area. Thanks
