Always amazed when visit cultural and historical place, also well preserved, since it's around 800 years old. I was little suprized that it's right next to the main road, since monasteries are usually deep into the forest or somehow divided from "world". Everything is really clean, nicely organized, good parking with souvenir store and toilets.

Zica Monastery is one of the many orthodox monasteries in the Central Serbia. It is located in the surroundings of Kraljevo and it is a walled building. As other monasteries, it has a very beautiful wall and in the inner part there is the main church (it is red), which is well-preserved, and some buildings, where religious live nowadays. Very interesting and beautiful place to visit the real religious Serbia.

I was disappointed with this site compared to say Sopocani and the little known Crna Reka monastery. I would say its reputation has been built on the religious importance it has to locals, quite rightly, rather than on the architectural or historic merit to visitors. It is basically the one church, structurally quite fine but honestly nothing special. Good frescoes but I preferred other nearby monasteries.

Beside its historical value, and spiritual comfort, you can spend a couple hours enjoying a peaceful world of this magical place. As added bonus, you can purchase excellent home made liquors at very affordable price. It is all natural, made within monastire. If you are in the area, you don't want to miss this historycal pearl.

This is an amazing monastery very close to Kraljevo. Perhaps it is one of the most important monasteries of Serbia. In our journey around Serbia we visited some of them but this was really the most beautiful.

Built in early 13 century by Serbian King Stefan-the-first-crowned and by first Serbian Archbishop Saint Sava. Very important place for Serbian identity.

Travelling from Tara to Pirot we have visited the monastery of Žiča. This is an early 13th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery near Kraljevo. Different from most of the monasteries we have visited as Rača (near Bajina Basta) and Poganovo (near Pirot) which were built in difficult accessible regions, you can reach Žiča very easily.

Žiča is a foundation of king Stefan the First-Crowned (1195–1223) and one of the most important holy objects for the Serbian people. It is the church where all Serbian kings were crowned and it was the first seat of Serbian archbishop.

Although badly damaged the church has some fragments of original 13th and 14th century frescoes, influenced by the Byzantines. We loved to see this wonderful place. Even for the non-religious like we are, the peace and serenity are all enveloping. It is a tranquil place.
