Wow- the tunnel is quite a long way, and very dark- it does have a good handrail - something to lean when people are passing- no boats came through when we walked through it, which was a shame- views from the aqueduct were amazing- very...More

To see the canal and train viaduct side by side over the valley is something to remember, especially as these are preceded by a single file tunnel.

While the postcode is correct, I've always known this as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Went for the day with my daughter and across on a canal boat, an experience I had promised myself for years. To think it's dovetailed iron plate sides are sealed with Welsh...More

Chirk Viaduct is quite amazing. To think it was built in the 18th century - high above the River Dee. Crossing it along the towpath or by canal boat, brings home the engineering involved, but it is not, however, for those who are concerned about...More

A great place to sit and enjoy the views, watching the boats and admiring the architecture. Such a great feat of engineering.

A visit to the aqueduct is well worth it, for fabulous views of the architecture & surrounding countryside. You can walk across the aqueduct on the tow path, and it’s great to watch the canal boats go by too. You can team this up with...More

Myself, wife, teenagers and friends had a most enjoyable afternoon out. We had a snack at the cafe where you purchase the tickets for the narrow boat followed by a trip over the aquaduct. The trip is approximately 45 minutes long. The views are beautiful but...More

I prefer this aqueduct to its better know neighbour the Pontycysllte aqueduct. We took a narrowboat across and we must have been a good sight from the passing trains. Alas no steam train which would have completed the picture! Worth seeing from down below in...More

Hi, sorry can't help you with the 45 min boat ride ticket, but, if you contact the Llangollen Tourist Information I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. Thanks for asking, CW

There is a cafe very close to both the chirk tunnel and aquaduct that has free parking for the walk and is lovely to pop in for a cuppa. It's just across the road from the aquaduct and tunnel.
