A good half hour diversion on route to something else but probably not a destination in itself. There is a little visitor centre with parking at the foot of the hill, inside is some information, artifacts and a model of what the castle used to...More

Bring your camera, stunning view from the top. Wear casual shoes to go. Park your car at the opposite of the Katsuren Castle. This is good for family, couples, or alone.

We spent a Saturday afternoon walking the ruins and learning about local history. It is important to our family to get as much out of our experience here in Okinawa. This ruin has a detailed map by the gift shop of what the castle looked...More

I didn't expect much, since it has the word "ruins." However, I am so glad I went. I read it is still being excavated and was just discovered this century when they went to start a housing development there. Turns out it is the oldest...More

This gusk (castle) trace is one of the world heritage site but you can enter without any charge. Because most of gusks are located on the hills, scenery is nice. But I think this place has most beautiful scenery of all. 30 minutes is enough...More

It's historical place. You must park your car at the floor of the mountain. Then you must walk to the castle that on top of the hill. In the midday, the weather is so hottttt!! The castle ruin is not big but not too small....More

The exterior of the castle reminds you as if it was a medieval European castle. However, the structure of the castle closely resembles it of a medieval Japanese castle. You may feel a strange feeling. The east and west side of the castle...More

Spectacular View of what remains of a 13th-14th castle built by Aji of Katsuren Magiri. Excavation is still ongoing on the site. This is also a DIY tour. For those that drives, there is a free parking across the street from the entrance and there's...More
