The area is very much a paradise for hiking enthusiasts but even a casual traveller can get up Jizoyama for a small hike. A return-ticket from the base costs about 2,800yen and you take two ropeways up and down for the whole trip.

The ropeway is a vital part of ski runs at Zao. It is about 10 inutes walk from the local bus station. Easy to use, good views on the way and from the top lookout. Cafe at the summit.
