It was very simple to get to madarao snow.... this was wonderful because we were travelling with a little 3 year old. The bullet train and the bus ride from Tokyo were not too arduous. It is definitely doable! Madarao is small but well accessible....More

Small but well-equipped resort with 16 lifts and variety of slopes for all abilities. A number of good food choices around the mountain. There is also skiing access to other resorts close by.

There is a couple of shops with basic gear that I know of... right at the main hotel near the lifts. I can not vouch for the quality of the stuff but you will definitely get kitted out for a decent price.
