    Sculptures in Nature
If you have the time so take a drive out to visit this place. It’s a novel concept to have art intertwined with beautifully manicured lawns, trees and shrubs. The reason it loss 1* was because it is quite pricey $45NZ per adult. You can do the whole place in 2 hours and then drive on to the Tawharanui Resetve to see the gorgeous beach and bird sanctuary.
Thankyou for your comments and feedback. It is important to us and knowing that you enjoyed your visit is appreciated. There is an alternative to pricing - whereby tickets can be purchased via our website. Also on our website under the 'whats on' section our guests are informed of any upcoming events and specials.

World class art in 'lil ole NZ
Easily our most delightful cultural discovery of 2022 in NZ. Tastefully and playfully curated, catering for all ages, spanning cultures and continents, indoor and outdoor. We spent 3 hours and it could have stayed even longer. Go and be delighted, and wonder how on earth this could happen in NZ?! The answer: passionate and dedicated collectors and entrepreneurs. Support them and have a great family day.
Amazing. Thankyou for your five star review and wonderful comments Alfred. Much appreciated

    Don't miss this!
We visited on a wet miserable summer day but were delighted we had persisted. The place is stunning and because of the careful planning for the exhibits and the way everything is ordered and executed there was little need to be concerned about the weather. This place has been extraordinarily masterminded - quite apart from rhe quality of the exhibits.
Thankyou for your five star review and wonderful comments. It is great knowing you enjoyed your visit with us and you are right - even on a wet day - the site remains outstandingly beautiful .

    A sight to be seen.
Wow, this place is amazing. So so many arts of work to see. The place is so well thought out. The gallery has some wonderful glass art to see. If you also like a cheeky glass of wine they have a great range to purchase that is grown within their own vineyard. Robert who was on the front desk when we arrived was a great fella. Full of information and life story that we could sit and listen to for hours.
Wow that's great feedback and comment. Thankyou

    An absolutely wonderful experience
I’m not a lover of art galleries and such and generally go under sufferance, but the Sculptureum is in a league of its own and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. The sculptures are so many and varied, naturally occurring and man made, boldly out in the open and tucked away amongst the planting which celebrates native plants and trees of New Zealand. The pink snails have very little to tell visitors about the true nature of this artistic paradise where art and imagination are displayed and discussed. The art gallery is home to an amazing collection of multi-disciplinary pieces, so many of which have stories to tell. It was an absolute privilege to visit this wonderful collection and to share the beauty for a short while. It was, for me, a significant and emotional experience, which I would urge anybody to share.
Thankyou Jane for your wonderful and encouraging review. It is very much appreciated by us.

    Impressive place
This is the sort of outing we enjoy (art, gardens, the great outdoors, coffee) and so when the rare opportunity for a day out occurred, this was the next on the visit list. Apart from a general awareness of the place, we had not done a lot of research beforehand and so were surprised at how big it was, how much intense work must have been undertaken to make it and how nicely it is kept up. One of gardens has a lot of statuary (rather than those sort of interesting sculptures that keep the brain guessing!), some perhaps not super noteworthy, but everything is laid out in immaculate gardens and all clearly signposted. In that respect, be warned that if you are after an organic experience this is definitely a highly curated exhibition - but there's definitely something for everyone. Oh, and if you're thinking of going to the restaurant during your visit, definitely book in advance. We couldn't get in.
Thankyou Keitha for your review and encouraging comments. We look forward to seeing you again

    Great family day out
Truly something for everyone one here. Both indoor and outdoor sculptures and all immaculately maintained and curated with information boards explaining not only what you were looking at but describing different types of gardens and their purpose in our lives. We spent just over 2 hours here and enjoyed the variety of art displayed and novel materials used (yellow buckets to make the dandelion!) - ‘so much more interesting than pictures!’ as my 10 yr old commented. Highly recommend this attraction, really world class and I felt proud showing our overseas visitors that this sort of place exists in rural NZ!
Thankyou for your five star review and for sharing your comments. It makes us proud too knowing how enjoyable your visit was for yourselves and your overseas guests

    Great day out
I went with 3 of my friends. The Sculptureum was lovely and we had a beautiful meal at the restaurant afterwards. Would suggest you book for the restaurant as they are really busy. We had beautiful snapper and the chips were the best I’ve ever had. Yum 😁
Thankyou Sue for your five star review and comments. Great to hear you and your friends enjoyed the Sculptureum experience with us. We look forward to seeing you again.

    Day trip from Whangarei
Beautifully laid out sculpture gardens with lots of shady nooks to shelter from the February sun. Fascinating studio sculptures. Everything is well-labelled to add to the experience. The 1.4 km walk went unnoticed because of the level of interest. Cafe served light food options which were a bit pricy. Our afternoon hot chocolate drinks were served barely lukewarm and the cakes were somewhat dry (probably from poor storage). Service was impeccable, though. The signage from the main road from Matakana is non-existent, so beware if you are travelling without a Sat-nav (as we were).
Hi Julie Thankyou for your positive review and comments. We look forward to seeing you again

Average visit with prons and cons
Reception Edna is very friendly and bubbling. This is our second time come to sculptureum with a gift voucher. Ryan from marketing is also helpful and prompt in responses. The draw down comes from the sculpturem kitchen. To be honest the food there is bland. No service. we ordered a cheese cake it simple cream cheese rolled in to oval shape from the supermarket. Will not go again. 8wired barrel works is fine offering free tasting beers before we buy but I don't think they have any association with the sculpturem family
Thankyou Jenny for your review and feedback and also for visiting us a second time. Our staff at Sculptureum are helpful and engaging and I'm pleased to hear you experienced this as well. We pride ourselves on our food offering at Rothko, and are concerned to hear your recent dining experience has fallen short of what you were expecting. Should you wish to discuss this further please contact us directly rothko@sculptureum.net I am pleased to hear you enjoyed some time at 8wired barrelworks too - our chefs from Sculptureum are based there as well - working the kitchen so we have a very strong connection.

Loved every part of the Sculptureum. It was a wet day but it didn’t stop us seeing the outdoor areas with the umbrellas available for visitors. . It was our second visit but took family members with us this time & they were very impressed as were we. And there were new exhibits on display since our other visit

Thankyou for your review and comments. Appreciate your visit on a wet day - good to hear that the rain didn't stop you and that the experience was still impressive. We tend to have new installations of art works every three months or so - and the new works are not confined to the galleries - but also extend to include the gardens. Always a lovely surprise. We look forward to seeing you again and thankyou for your support.

The Sculptureum was amazing! We stayed over 3 hours but there were several spots where I could have happily sat all day. The external garden was stunning and so peaceful. Winding paths lead us through beautiful gardens with sculptures and aviaries along the way. And rabbits! The galleries were packed with art and sculptures which used a huge range of mediums (who knew that beautiful flowers could be made from cable ties). Then there were further gardens packed with sculptures from tiny to huge. The price of NZ$50 may seem high but it was absolutely worth every cent. And this was not the normal sort of art display that could bore small children to death. There were so many animals, quirkiness and bright colours to grab attention. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but had an excellent coffee and the best chai latte I’ve ever had.

We really enjoyed visiting this place very much. We are keen on gardens and this one is lovely. We spent at least an hour there and loved every second of it
The main sculpture area is also very worth spending time in. By the time we got to the plastic pigs area we were beginning to get hungry and so rushed it a little. However, the Matakana area is one we visit reasonably frequently, and we will return. We will probably have lunch at Rothko while we are about it

The Sculptureum is brilliant for individuals, couples and families. The outstanding landscaped design creates a genuine story-filled adventure as you follow the journey around the main external garden. Quirky, beautiful, and marvellous works of art greet you at every turn. The inside gallery again boasts some tremendous modern and contemporary works of art including pieces by Lichtenstein, Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, and Miro. Delightful and fun surprises abound. The outside garden with the giant snails, rabbit and meerkats is a hoot and kids absolutely love this. Couldn't recommend this more highly. If you are visiting Aulkland and enjoy arts and gardens then it is a must do! The Founders Anthony and Sandra Grant have set about making the world a better and more beautiful place. They are succeeding and I am very grateful to have benefitted from their enormous cutural contribution.

Thankyou for the time you have taken to write such an in-depth, encouraging review. As a novice sculptor and traveling with my family in NZ. My family indulged my art stop without too many complaints but this time they were engaged by the eclectic collection of art, beautifully manicured gardens setting with live animals. As well as the inspirational and colorful multi media collections in the gallery . There is some thing here for everyone of any age and artistic flavor. Well worth a visit and food and drinks available as well for a longer stay. Great family outing to explore art or just lovely walk seeing something different.

This is an amazing experience for art lovers, children and all. Situated in Matakana, just an hour out of Auckland but well worth the visit. The gardens are bursting with wonderful sculptures and quotations and the indoor gallery displays some amazing pieces of eclectic art from all over the world. I had previously visited Sculptureum with my Garden Club and enjoyed it so much I encouraged a group of friends to visit while we were staying in Matakana. We were all so impressed. The layout is great with amazing sculptures, great quotes on boards that we enjoyed reading, birds, animals and plants. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
