Overview
More
An all day cruise through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds delivering mail and groceries to remote and secluded properties. The Pelorus Sound is the largest of the Sounds and the Mail Boat is a lifeline to the people living in this boat access wonderland. You will hear a great selection of stories about life in the sounds, its history, and how the mail has been delivered like this since 1918.You will also get to experience the marine and bird life in the area including 5 types of Dolphins, Australasian Gannets, rare Shags, Seals and many more.A full Mussel Farm tour is also included and there is usually an opportunity to see the Mussel Boats operating during harvesting or seeding. We will stop off at a local lodge and passengers are able to buy lunch or bring your own lunch and come with us to a local farm for a tour. You will also be able to enjoy a bush walk or swim if you would like. We are now operating 7 days in summer, which is November to April.

The Mail Boat cruise was one of the Top 5 experiences I've had in New Zealand in four month-long visits. The scenery was beautiful, the boat was relaxing, the commentary was helpful, and the farm visit was fascinating. We had extra deliveries to make, so...More

We are a couple who live fairly locally and thought it would be just a nice day out. Well it absolutely knocked our socks off! From the funny informative banter of Bindi about the locals and their stories to the unexpectedly delightful appearance of orcas...More

The Mail Boat journey was fascinating and varied, allowing one to see so much more of the Sounds landscapes and way of life. On board refreshments, a stop for lunch all allowed the day to flow smoothly. Lots of informative tales added to the enjoyment...More

This is a brilliant trip. I would need to use the greatest of superlatives for everything – the boat ,the scenery ,the skipper and crew and perhaps most especially the people we visited to deliver the post to in the far out reaches of the...More

I went on this cruise with my family and we all really enjoyed it, in spite of the weather. Skipper Jim's wit and knowledge really "makes" this run from a tourist's perspective - doubly so on a day which started out overcast and very rainy!...More
