For our anniversary we decided to explore a new place and decided to visit the Tico north pacific. We found a very good airbnb in Playas de Coco and from there moved around the Peninsula de Papagayo.
The town itself is pretty busy and has...More
This is a safe swimming beach with lots of shade. Parking is limited, so get there early. I bought a rain poncho for $3.00 in one of the shops, and shopped at the supermarket. Food prices are high in Costa Rica, since it’s mostly imported....More
We visited a couple of times, we might have gone more but felt it a bit expensive to get there on the shuttle bus. Once there, just the one street, you can happily spend a couple of hours browsing around, the beach and walk area...More
I gave this a very good rating but you must understand its small, dirty, poor and full of tourist shops, bars and resturants. That said I still think it worth a few hours time. The local grocery sells good fruits and coffee at good prices....More
We stayed in a hotel just in front of this beach.
The beach is very long and interesting to walk all along but you have to be very careful with your things. Don't bring anything to the beach.

Took a van for $15 for a round trip from the hotel. Nice place to see the sun go down by the beach. Did some souvenir shopping and then had a drink at a beach bar, Nice people at shops especially Susy's Souvenirs.
After 2 weeks elsewhere in Costa Rica, Playa del Coco was a let down. Vehicles seem to be allowed to drive along the beach, which is narrow making it unsafe. We found an area at the Southern end where the cars didn't go, as there...More
Good beach. Area was clean. However next to review resorts and can hear the thumping music from the water. The water was clean however a little choppy due to the boat wakes. Definitely wear water shoes or sandals because of the rocks on the beach.

yes. we rented a golf cart and putted around. We had our own stand-up paddle boards but we did rent a guy and his boat to take us surfing $140/pp for all morning out to Witches rock. Also a guy will take you to private beaches for a reasonable rate. I have a contact for fishing - "Big Mike". He is originally from Newmarket. He usually hangs at Coconutz but if you wish I could get contact info.

Playa del coco itself is not ideal for snorkelling but there are tour companies which you can easily find who specialise in snorkelling tours and scuba diving. My suggestion would be to ask important questions like do they provide equipment and if there is an additional charge for pick up from the place you are staying? You maybe surprised to that some charge extra for these which adds to the price. Enjoy your holiday, hope you found this helpful
