One is a bit surprised after driving through a town consisting mainly of two to three story buildings with the size of the basilica. The architecture makes you want to wander inside and around the building. There are rows of beautiful palm trees on the...More

You just won't see many things with such majesty and beauty like this. Part of what may make this look so great is that it is in the middle of such an impoverished area. If you get the chance, drive down the main road and...More

This is a fabulous modern church built about 1970. It is a functioning Catholic church. On the day we were there, there were some Baptisms occurring. The architecture is stunning and it does seem a bit out of place in this otherwise humble town. The...More

We went to Higuey, in part, to visit the Basilica. It is easy to find and there is lots of convenient parking. Religious souvenirs are readily available from street vendors or the very conveniently located Basilica shop. The Catedral itself is very nice - just...More

Enjoyed our visit to the town of Higuey and our visit to the Cathedral of Higuey !! Impressive building with a very solemn interior atmosphere. Big contrast with the tipical colonial structures and an impressive sight in a little tiwn like Higuey. Must see !!

Excellent basilica and awesome architecture, surprised by the size for the mountain population. What a magnificent church and story that goes with it.

It's amazing to see this Basilica just off of the town center. The architecture is surprising, the concrete is everywhere but in a very appealing structure. The surrounding landscape is manicured.

A lovely cathedral. We were told it was $8 to go inside so we looked in from outside. The surrounding grounds were very beautiful and peaceful to walk through

Beautifully crafted cathedral. Every detail is impeccable. This place is ginormous. The history here is rich and is quite interesting. Ladies must wear a skirt or dress that comes below the knees or to the ankles.
