The architecture of the Capitol is one of a kind. The ground floor is an open-air space allowing sun, wind, and rain to enter, and is surrounded by reflecting pools. The central atrium opens to the sky, and the doors to offices and chambers open...More

The building is an architectural wonder, from its domeless, open-air roof, to its gorgeous blue hued rotunda on the floor of the courtyard. There's a statue of Father Damien on its grounds as well. The whole area is worth a leisurely wander. Lots to see...More

Beautiful open air capitol building, lovely mosaic, and friendly staff. Though the Senate and House chambers were inexplicably closed (though the clerk in the Governor’s office told us they were open), we were still welcomed into the Governor’s chambers. The receptionist there told us all...More

The building just celebrated its 50th anniversary. It is clearly special with an open design that celebrates the 50th state's relationship to nature. Also, don't miss the nearby historic Hawaii statues.

The Hawaii State Capitol is a very interesting looking building. You can walk through the "courtyard" without having to go inside the building, the ceiling is open to the sky. It's surrounded by a pond and there are a few statues and monuments around it.

Columns surrounded by a reflecting pool (symbolizing the Pacific Ocean), built with an open-air design, and the central atrium opens to the sky.

I have been to over 20 different state capitol buildings and this structure is the most unique so far. The building does not have a dome or rotunda. You can actually walk through the building without going inside. There are the representative chambers, but you...More

To be fair, we visited on Monday, November 12th, Veterans' Day, so the whole complex was closed. There was metal fencing around the complex for construction purposes. I am aware that Hawaii became a state in 1959, so the architecture reflects the sterile Cold War/bomb...More
