No visit to Newport is complete for me without at least a partial walk along the Cliff Walk. There are several entry/exit points along this cliffway, and depending upon how sure-footed are you on uneven paths, walkers can stay on the well-paved areas of the...More

When in Newport you need to do this. Why wouldn't you?! It's a great view of the water and the back of beautiful homes. Wear good shoes as there is a part on the path that turns to just rocks. Still easy enough to walk,...More

Dress appropriately! It’s called the cliff walk for a reason! We started our walk from the chandler at cliff walk. It starts off easy with waves walkway but, before long you are literally walking cliffs! We wore hiking boots with good traction and sneakers with...More

The cliff walk is a great way to see Rhode Island Sound. Most of it is paved or groomed for easy walking, however there are areas where you are off the path and walking on the rocks. Some of those areas are difficult as the...More

Had heard quite a bit about this since moving to the area and finally had the time and opportunity. Beautiful fall day, we walked from the 40 steps to Rough Point and back. Hard to estimate the actual distance as there are no mile markers...More

Breathtaking views and before you know it you've walked a couple of miles. Park for free at the beach and walk up. Feel free to ask another couple to take your photo so it's not all selfies.

We like to hike and the Cliff Walk may be one of our favorites with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the beautiful mansions on the other. There were some places that were challenging with rocks to climb over but we had no problems....More

I apologize but am unable to answer your question generally. A large part of the walk consists of a concrete surface, but you’d have to check the rules. However, the areas of the the path that consist of rocks are... More

Most of the mansions for public touring are not readily accessible from the Cliffwalk. Often there is fencing between the Cliffwalk and the mansion's lawns.
