We started at the Breakers, and the Newport Reservation Society had it all organised. Audio tours in many languages explained the rooms and the people who lived there. Very good, however they even had additional stories that you could listen to about fabric, paintings and...More

Toured The Breakers first. It is a self-guided audio tour (pair of headphones and player the size of a cellphone). Liked the option of hearing more detailed stories in each room. Consider purchasing the ticket that allows you to see several mansions. Some are now...More

It’s the biggest and most ostentatious but also the most expensive to visit, however the history was fascinating and the decor was incredible. There is a nice cafeteria and restrooms and plenty of parking space. You should definitely use the complimentary audio guide and listen...More

The house was very neat to see. They give you listening devices for a self guided tour. They had a kids version for the younger ones which they loved. It was so fascinating to hear the story behind this house. We also went on to...More

The Breakers tour takes you into another world. The audio headsets are free and worth using for as much or as little info and background as you desire. It also keeps people quiet! Might want to check the schedule before visiting to avoid disruption by...More

I'm not much for this type of sightseeing, but this tour was off the charts. I've built some pretty amazing homes so I am familiar with the effort that goes into it. This home is completely off the scale amazing... by any standard. But, what...More

It was very interesting listening to the history of this place, but I think the tickets are overpriced.

The Breakers was amazing. It was our favorite mansion. Having the ear phones to listen to details about the mansion was great. The staff was very helpfully in answering any questions. Would highly recommend to anyone that goes to Newport RI.

Wow. What a house to visit! House is really an understatement though. The Breakers is a beautiful mansion built on the coast by the Vanderbilts. You can take a self-guided audio tour that is very informative. I also liked how it was set up to...More

This was by far my favorite of the two mansions. Love all that gold. Love that you can listen as you tour each room and can go at your own paste. Wish we could have toured the servants quarters as well. Love that they were...More
