You can find the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier here. This too, in colonial times, was where enslaved Africans were once held before being sold, and it has also served as a burial ground for white and black victims of the 1793 yellow fever epidemic.

A nice tranquil park in the old part of town close to the Independence mall/centre. It is a good place to rest for a while to take a break from walking and sightseeing.

If your going to see the Liberty Bell then make sure you walk the short distance to see the Franklin Monument, it’s only a few minutes away & a very nice little park to chill, sit a minute & enjoy the monument

One of William Penn’s original parks. A wonderful space and park in the centre of the city. Plenty of seating & the tomb of the unknown soldier. Lots of squirrels to entertain you

Washington Square is not just a lovely urban park; it is also filled with interesting, important, and somber history. I am frankly astonished that several recent reviewers noted that there is not much to do or see in this park. They must not have looked...More

I have walked through this park a few times. It is small and close to Independence Hall. Usually people walk their dogs or suntan or read a book. I learned on a ghost tour that people were executed and buried here, so some people believe...More

Perfect spot to walk around, stop & sit by the fountain & enjoy the sites. There was live music during our visit which was an added treat.

This is another one of those historical parks in beautiful downtown Philadelphia. Close to the main attractions of Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, it is an easy side trip when going to those sites. We sat and watched people come and go for 30 minutes...More

I took my wife on a tour of the squares in Philly, this is one of the nicer ones. As a high school kid i remember selling soft pretzels and ice cream from a push cart on this square, such pleasant memories.

The square has trees, seats, paths and the memorial. Flags of old regiments lead up to the tomb and a light was burning. A man was using a noisy leaf blower which spoilt the tranquility. The square is green and pleasant, perfect for resting on...More
