Waimea Canyon is an excellent place to sightsee and hike. There are many trails and scenic outlooks availible. I would highly recommend heading out early, as the smaller parking lots at the scenic outlook areas get crowded after 10:00 am. Get a good map and...More

This is a great side trip from Lihue. It takes about an hour. Called the Grand Canyon of Hawaii it is worth the trip.

This was an unexpected addition to our itinerary, but glad we made the drive. The elevation of 3400 feet allows for the perfect views from the scenic lookout area. Looks like a mini Grand Canyon and I do mean mini in comparison, but the natural...More

Sunny all the way to the top but not at the top. The fog just kept rolling in and the visibility was zero. Farther down at Waimea Canyon We enjoyed spectacular sunshine and beautiful sights. Oh well. Glass half full.

Simply said, a must do. Your eyes are gonna Hurt from the beauty ☺️ Go early in the day otherwise the clouds will blur the view. Don't think that 11 am is early, really go in the morning. You can't change mother nature.

The Waimea Canyon Lookout is a fantastic lookout with great views of the Waimea valley, but is also the most crowded spot in the valley. The Puu Hinahina lookout is the most fun due to the variety of views available in such a small area. Views...More

The top lookout is the rainiest place on earth. We started out early, but not early enough as the clouds came in to spoil our view. We did get some Falls photos before the clouds covered the top

Weimea Canyon State Park is a must see. I took both a bus tour which included a river cruise to the Fern Grotto and a helicopter tour of the Canyon and the Na Pali Coast. I highly recommend both. My pictures look like postcards and...More

Plan a half-day for the Canyon. Morning is better before the clouds build up. While on that side of the island stop at the Kauai Coffee Company and pick up some premium coffee to take home. I recommend seeing the all... More

No where near as bad as Hana. The road is narrow in places, but you can pull off frequently.

You might be able to drive the length of Waimea Canyon Drive and Kokee Drive (it’s one road that changes names along the way) and back (it’s a dead-end so you have to drive back down) with brief stops at a couple of scenic... More
