Great little walk. Paved path with some beautiful flowers and lizards on the way. Stop by for a leisurely visit.

You had to pay for parking and access and you get nowhere near the falls. The view you do get though was nice and good trail for exercise.

The half mile paved walk to Akaka Falls wanders through the rainforest. You'll be surrounded by lush and varied vegetation and the sounds of the coqui frogs. The spectacular waterfall drops 442 feet. Take time to read the info about the interesting native goby fish...More

The walk to Akaka Falls is not very long and is easy. The waterfall is beautiful and wonderful to photograph. BUT READ ON! There are arrows that suggest going to see a second waterfall. They don't tell you how far it is or that there...More

This is a must if you’re on the Big Island! Especially if you are with kids or those who aren’t up for hiking. The “trail” is paved and easy, but you still feel like you’re walking through an unexplored jungle. The banyan trees are awesome,...More

Beautiful falls with easy access and no fee. Parked near hospital and enjoyed the view. It was not too crowded.

It's only a short drive from Hilo. The trail to to waterfall is short easy walk. It's free for people with Hawaii drivers license or ID.

Maybe because I'm comparing to Hanakapiai Falls and Wailua Falls on Kauai and even Twins Falls on Maui, but this was disappointing. There is a small fee per person to access the viewing area. The path is easy and partially paved, it is very lush,...More

It was a very pleasant walk through the bush and only cost $1 per person however you can’t see the other waterfall as the view is overgrown. The view of akaka falls is lovely and the walk itself isn’t taxing so it’s a nice stop...More

Short drive north of Hilo. Short walk from parking to the falls. The hike is on a well maintained trail. Easy hike. Great photo opportunity.

We were there and it was raining.. not many steps. They are at the beginning of the walk. We took the short route and did not walk around the entire path. So you walk down the stairs to a solid path. Can’t remember if it was... More

I can't remember how far Akaka state park is from Hilo. The state park can be seen in one hour or you can spend a whole half day, because it is a very beautiful place. But add travel time. Check Sat-nav readings for that

I walked the paved pathway wearing flip flops with no difficulty at all. So the shoes you describe should be fine.
