Fun day exploring the aquarium as a family with a teen and a tween in tow. They are hard to please but were really engaged for the whole visit. Particularly enjoyed the dolphin/sea lion show and my 10 year old loved the opportunities to touch...More
One of my favorite museums. This particular one features 4 floors and animals from all across the world. Layout is very easy to navigate around. I booked my City pass online and saved up to 50% off the daily rate. It comes with a 4...More
This is one of the best aquariums we've been too. Its pricey, but you can get some good deals with combinations like the planetarium. Make sure you book your tickets for the dolphin show as soon as you get there.
I love visiting aquariums when I travel, and the Shedd was awesome. I believe it’s the aquarium I’ve spent the most time in.
The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
The exhibitions first class. We love the beluga whales!!!

This aquarium is huge! We spent 2.5 hours there and could easily have spent more time. There is a huge array of fish and reptiles, many of which you can get close to as the tanks are huge.
We also watched the Beluga whale and...More
I expected more from the aquarium and at $40 for adults it was not cheap altho they did offer free admission if you were an Illinois resident so that was a bonus. I found the place to be stale and the layout was confusing and...More
came here after the sight being pointed out on a segway tour, and there was plenty to see.

Marine life is well taken care of, and conservation is an obvious goal. Area is clean and there is a lot to see. It is pricey to get in, and it is overrun with kids. Rooms can be crowded and people can be pushy.
This downtown neighborhood offers a variety of activities ranging from cultural to sporting. If you happen to visit during football season, you may bump into a boisterous few fans on their way to a Bears game on the southernmost tip of South Loop. On the flip side, Museum Campus offers cultural and educational experiences in its planetarium, museum and aquarium, all situated along the lakefront. Grant Park
is one of Chicago’s premier locations for green space and recreation with views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Take a stroll down memory lane in the historic Prairie District where you can enjoy views of old historic homes. Restaurants, theaters, and clubs are spread throughout the neighborhood along with a collection of burger joints along Michigan Avenue just across from the park.

No universal answer to this question as it depends on the interests and attention span of the people attending. My 13 and 15 year olds love the Wild Reef, and so do I. This exhibit is accessible via an elevator just before the Amazon wing. Standing in front of the literal wall of glass watching the sharks and schools of fish swim before you is hard to beat. My favorite fish is in this area - the Mandarin Dragonet. It's small but gorgeous. Agree with the first post that the underground viewing of the beluga and the dolphins is also a do not miss. If there will be little ones then plan on walking by pretty much every area, but definitely plan to sit near the front for the live show.
