Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This historic building is where the Revolution of 1810 began. You can admire the view of the Plaza de Mayo from the balcony and look at the exhibits about the revolution. There is even an archaeological dig adjacent to the building. Across the courtyard was an exhibit of painting of Liberator Jose de San Martin at various staged of his life.

The Museo Histórico Nacional del Cabildo y la Revolución de Mayo is a must-see if you're interested in Argentine history. Even if you're not, it's free to enter and on the Plaza de Mayo. You'll be there any. You might as well take a look. Besides, the Museo Histórico Nacional del Cabildo y la Revolución de Mayo has the best view of the Casa Rosada.

A fabulous building now housing a museum. It used to be a club for very rich men only, no women. Det at the side of the square it is said the men lined the balconies to watch the revolution start

The Cabildo de Buenos Aires is located on the Plaza de Mayo near the Cathedral. Built in 1725-1822, it is the first building in Buenos Aires constructed completely by bricks. It was the seat of the Spanish colonial government -- city hall, courthouse and jail. It is now a museum. Hours are limited -- during my stay, it was only open Thu-Sun.

The historic town hall building which is very noticeable from the Plaza Mayo. It now contains a free museum containing many 18th century artifacts. Some of them are interesting, but be aware nearly all of the signage is in Spanish (probably to be expected in Argentina…). The two levels and outdoor patio can be explored in less than an hour. There is no air conditioning and unfortunately the bell tower is no longer open to visit.

Just to be clear, lots of towns in Argentina have a “Cabildo.” The Spanish word means “council.” This cabildo was once the town council of Buenos Aires (and later the government house of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata).

It’s a museum today: The National Museum of the Cabildo and the May Revolution. It’s free to view paintings, clothing, artifacts and jewelry as well as to learn how the building’s appearance has changed over the years. (If you’re patient for traffic to clear, you can get a nice photo of the modern-day Cabildo from across the street in Plaza de Mayo.)

The best part, though? Going to the upper floor to take a panoramic picture of neighboring Plaza de Mayo from the balcony. This is also the best place to get a photo that shows Catedral Metropolitana in all its glory (as opposed to the easier-to-get photo of its front facade only).

TIP:

—Public restrooms are on the patio behind the Cabildo (reach them by walking in the front entrance and out the patio entrance at the rear).

This is on the plaza de mayo. Although this place has history to it, most of the people use it to get some photos of the plaza de mayo. Entrance is free and on the 1st floor (not ground floor), you can oversee the entire Mayo square

This free museum is a wonderful place to visit and learn some important details of Argentina's history and their quest for independence. It's right off of the Plaza de Mayo and easily accessible. Be certain to climb the stairs to the second floor front balcony where you can get some excellent photos of the Plaza de Mayo and other nearby attractions.

You get awesome views of the square from the terrace. Informative displays about the town halls history. Well worth stopping in. You can tour the whole place within half an hour.
