I love to hike and I'm up for a challenge. If you're looking for a good hiking experience, don't climb Maderas. The work:reward ratio is way off. If you have a more intangible goal - want to climb every volcano in Nicaragua, or you really...More

Firstly there are two routes, one leaving from Finca Magdelena on the north side if the island, the other from Santa Cruz. We climbed from Magdalena and had a guide. Normally we wouldn't hike with guides although it proved helpful when the path splits as...More

Tough but worth the trek. Start early and go as far as you like. There's no switchbacks so it's a rigorous trail. Only go if you're in good physical shape.

Arranged hike through hostel I was staying at. Think I paid around $20 and there were a few of us along with our guide. There was also a small fee entering the park but I think that was included in the $20. I was told...More

Maderas is the smaller of the two volcanoes that make up the island of Omatepe. It has not been active in historic times, unlike its sister, Volcan Concepcion. The slopes of the volcano are home to a cloud forest. Prehistoric petroglyphs have been found here...More
