Sixth street is the best for the very young adults but offers dining and music for us all. We visit two music venues on a typical trip to Sixth Street and the music very rarely disappoints. If visiting Austin this is a must place to...More
I spent a weekend in Austin and went to 6th Street two nights in a row. Even now, I don't understand why it's considered so popular. If you like dive bars, this is your place!
At 9:00pm on a Saturday night, most of the establishments...More
We have been coming to Austin for over 20 years for the music on Dirty Ol' 6th street... It's worse than ever. The homeless, drunks, panhandlers and street crime is worse than ever. This past summer the City of Austin rescinded laws that limited homeless...More
Its a fun part of Austin Tx. Lots of bars, lots of restaurants, lots of people. Very interesting mix of locals and tourists. Some souvenir shops, but nothing very interesting. It can be quite intimidating as there are a lot of homeless and beggars asking...More

This street is a pit. Dirty 6th street is appropriate name. Dodge homeless who are rather aggressive. Supposed to be good music at night but we were told by area resident/waiter to avoid! I didn’t need to be told.

We dressed for 50s & 60s temps as the general forecast had predicted, but in fact it was freezing for much of our stay and uncomfortably so because we weren't prepared for it. The temps didn't seem to retard the crowd in the slightest on the w/e or any other time.
Layer up, as probably a jammed night spot will get warm, so you'll want to be able to adjust.
The w/e was too loud for us geezers to enjoy, but it was totally "happening" despite the weather.
