This castle/fort is the one made famous during the Arab Revolt including the attack encouraged by Lawrence. The visit is informal, with a local guide who asked for a few JOD. We found the hsitory and architecture interesting.

It's currently closed, you cant go in. No info on the website to tell you that its closed. Dont bother walking down there in the summer heat!! You can currently see it only from the outside. Building works going on all around it too.

Very disappointing! Given its history we were looking forward to this visit but it’s basically a building site with builders rubble and dead end streets. What a pity!

My family of 4 went recently to visit this castle in Aqaba because of it’s interesting history. It was originally built in the 12th century and then rebuilt in the 16th century for it’s strategic location. The castle is currently undergoing restoration and is obviously...More

From the outside, it looks very impressive. Sadly it is close for restoration. You can still capture an idea of how impressive it was and take some nice photos.

It is a small, but nice castle. The guy taking care of it was nice and showed us around. There were, among other things, niches for postal pigeons. There's nothing better to see in Al-Aqaba anyway. The ruins of the ancient city are almost non-existant,...More
