This is a must visit if you want to claim you visited DC. May have to stand in line for a bit, it is a popular item, but well worth it. Come early in the day.

Be sure to take a tour and if possible schedule one ahead of time on line. The building is amazing. Our tour was interesting but I do wish it had been longer and more extensive, especially on the architecture of the building. A must see...More

We called our congressman for a tour of the Capital. Stopped by his office to see inside and have an aid guide us around the Capital. We got there early and walked the halls and took pictures of other door fronts.

Whereas it is a must see, it's not necessarily a fun tour. Wait in several lines and be inspected similar to airport security, more than once, which is not similar to airport security. Might be better off peak. Seeing the difficulty of movement and hearing...More

Ask your local congressman ahead of time to book you a tour. Then you have a semi-private tour (13 or so) of the capitol. They take you to the underground tunnels and lots of places in the capitol that otherwise you wouldn't see. They give...More

As we drove by, our tour guide gave us a very interesting history on the building. He also informed us on how to indicate when the house and/or senate are in session. Overall, a nice little photo opportunity when we had a chance to walk...More

The House is in one building and Senate another and their are tunnels below that allows everyone to get around. I saw Senators Murray and Cantwell and both were in different buildings but lovely architecture. I do not think they have tours and yes security...More

We visited the Dirksen Senate Office Building to visit our Senator's office. The building is an older building and nothing really "special" as far as office buildings go - except that you have to empty your pockets and go through a metal detector to enter...More

They used to be open, but now the security deters a lot of people. Unfortunately, not much is getting done legislatively but it is interesting to compare the three Senate and House buildings architecture.
