The Athabasca is a beautiful river easily seen while driving along the Icefields Parkway and flowing over the Sunwapta and the Athabasca Falls.

From it's source at the Columbia Icefield the Athabasca's waters eventually flow into the Great Slave Lake and eventually, via the Mackenzie River into the Arctic. At Jasper it is a very substantial river dominating many walks around the town.

The Athabasca River originates from the Columbia Glacier of the Columbia Icefield. There are scenic accessible points, for walking alongside the beautiful river.

Our group took a 2 hour trip down this scenic river. The ride was pleasant and relaxing with a few moderate rapids. It was a glorious sunny day and we had a great trip.
