We stopped here to and from Lake Maligne - while it doesn't warrant any particular contemplation, the still water gives a mirror-like effect when viewed at ground level. We also saw our first pika here!
The day we were here was overcast with the sun only breaking through from time to time but the lake with its’ mountain backdrop was still spectacular. There is a pull out and view point area off the main road which was pretty busy but...More
One of our favorite stops on our Canadian Rockies tour - (I’ve used that statement a lot!)
Beautiful colored water, mountains - and reflected in the water - had had fires and even the “starkness” of the burned trees added to the beauty of the...More
En route to the much larger Maligne Lake and with only a small pull over point rather than a big car park. I actually preferred this to its larger cousin further along the road. The first time we drove to it was at dusk and...More
My Husband and I recently returned from a trip to the Canadian Rockies. While there we drove to Medicine Lake and stopped to take some photographs. The Lake itself is beautiful but it is surrounded by burned trees that were taken from a fire several...More
Roadside stop on our day trip from Jasper as part of Rocky Mountaineer package. Very pretty with the mountain reflections on the water. A pity that some of the lakeside pine trees have been destroyed by either fire or the pine beetle ( not sure...More

There are two spots where you can stop. There is the official pullout with the signs explaining everything about Medicine Lake. If you are traveling TO Maligne Lake, it is on the right hand side of the road, just shortly after you pass the winter road closure gates.
Alternately, there is a pullout BEFORE the winter road closure gates, also on the right hand side. This is our favorite of the two. There is more parking here and you can easily go down to the lake and scramble around on the rocks (if it's later in the summer). You can launch canoes and kayaks from this stop. The main pullout has the best views though.
