This was a really cool stop. The tower is as cool inside as outside. The view is amazing, and the tower has a deck as well. My daughter could see some people floating the river in the binoculars. Clean restrooms nearby.
You can get to this location very easily, and can get a good first view of the Grand Canyon. This area is developed, but doesn't feel nearly as overcrowded as the main South Rim locations. And the watchtower is a really cool structure.
The Desert View Watchtower was an impressive stop. The inside of the tower is fashioned after the ancient Pueblo Indian kiva with paintings of the kachinas & other depictions of their lives. The views of the canyon & high desert are enthralling. You will find...More
I was amazed to see this unusual structure looming up from a ledge of Grand Canyon. And upon entering, I was first surprised that it was free, and I was surprised by all the Indian art that was painted on walls and ceilings of every...More
We took the scenic route back to Phoenix from the south rim which included the Desert View Watchtower. It was a beautiful vantage point to see the spectacular view. A wonderful punctuation for our trip to Sedona then the South Rim. Check it out!
The watchtower provides some of the most breathtaking views at the GC. It was built in the early 1900’s as a representation of the architecture of the Native Americans that lived there. There are 3 viewing levels with windows that provide awesome views. I saw...More
Go here on the east side of the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Commanding views. Interesting structure. Go inside and explore. The views of the Canyon here are sweeping. You can see the Colorado River at the bottom. Excellent!
Definitely take the time to stop here as you enter or exit GCNP. The tower is a work of art inside and out and hosts artists in the bottom floor. Go up the stairs and take time to appreciate the paintings. The view is wonderful...More
The view of the south rim at the Grand Canyon from this watchtower is breathtaking. We went at the end of September and the weather is very nice and not overly crowded. Recommend when visiting the Grand Canyon, they also have two gift shops.
