We were in San Cristobal de las Casas when we met a local and ask where to go next apart from the famous Tulum in the South. He proposed Bacalar lake . When we arrive at the night in the village we didnt see anything...More
Deep down in the Yucatan, right outside the sleepy town of Bacalar, on the banks of the Lagoon of Seven Blues, my beautiful wife Pantea and I were married.

Stopped in Lake Bacalar for a morning dip. There are only a few places to access the lake as a member of the public but they can be found with a bit of persistence. The lake is crystal clear and very, very beautiful.
Lake Bacalar is such a hidden gem that not too many people know about. It is about an hour away from Costa Maya cruise port or the fishing village of Mahahual. It's variations of blues and clear, fresh water make it such a sight to...More
I hate to write a review about this place because I don't want to support its ongoing transformation into a crappy tourist destination for Instagram posers (the way Tulum has been ruined).
Despite this, I can't lie, it is beautiful. If you like beautiful, blue...More

Careful: just to get out of the "man made" cruise port of Costa Maya until you reach a taxi, and I kid you not, it is at least a 20 minute walk. Then to get out of the mangrove area between Mahajual to the highway it is at least 30 minutes drive (no traffic). You have now lost about 1 hour. Then you have the drive which is at least 45 minutes to the Northern part of the Lakes. The lakes are long vs wide, so you would need to know where to go to get on a platoon boat to go to the best areas in the lagoon. And hopefully your auto transport and the platoon boat will be reliable. We saw 2 boats that ran out of gas and 1 broke down. Too risky! Hate to say it, but I do take tons of groups on board ships, if the cruise line offers the tour, book it thru the cruise line. It's the safest way to go. Important to know: look at the weather before booking it. It's the sun piercing thru the waters that gives it the colors. Rainy day? not worth it. Hope this helps!
there a several piers where the tours boats go out of....so the cost to use the pier is included in the tour....not sure i understand the question? .....then there are beach clubs....extremely rustic!!!
