    Not to be missed experience
My husband and I deeply enjoyed this tour. There was ample time to walk on our own and two trails with contrasting habitats. Though we've gone on many birdwalks, we saw birds on Kapiti that we had not seen elsewhere. The lunch was substantive and delicious and our guide was incredibly accessible and gracious. We appreciated his familial relationship to the island and his rich knowledge and his warm hospitality. We will remember this trip always.

Great birdlife and a beautiful island
We did a self guided day tour, although it started with a really great introduction and briefing from one of the guides. We went mainly for the birdwatching and the island exceeded our expectations, it was as good as Ulva for us! With a bit of patience and a pair of binoculars we saw just about everything. Kaka, kakariki, hi hi, whitehead, saddlebacks, kokako, tui, bellbirds, gannets. Somebody else saw one of the two resident takahe. No kiwi of course as we were there during daylight hours. The walk to the summit is easily done in the time you have (we are 50 something and spend a lot of time looking at birds). The forest is lovely and the boat trip was fun, launching from the back of a tractor into breaking surf was a laugh. If you like birds make sure you walk the estuary too, plenty of dotterells, oyster catchers, shags and terns.

Island nature preserve with unique ecosystem
Amazing how Kāpiti ecosystem was restored and is now preserved. Outstanding service from Kāpiti Nature Tours Team, fron booking, pickup and drop off in Wellington, pleasant drive both ways, breakfast at cafe was simple and delicious, boat ride, guided tour and lunch. Kāpiti view from Paraparaumu Beach is setting the pace for what the island has to offer. A magnificent display of fauna and flora. Keep your eyes and ears open to catch what nature has to offer. The fall weather was just perfect, sunny and fresh, even warm at times. I wish I could have stayed overnight!

    Peaceful
Good views, great walking track, friendly guide, enjoyable lunch. Didn't see as much wildlife as I would have liked to see.

    love the birds
We had a fantastic trip - grandparents and children - so a great adventure for the 5 and 8 year olds. The boat trip was fun, the bird song was amazing and lots of sightings of rare birds. 5 hours on the island was enough to walk to the summit. Great example of ecosystem restoration when the pests are removed. Everyone should experience that. Seemed quite expensive for a family at first but well worth it. 100% recommended.

Absolutely beautiful, island being transformed back to natural habitat.
When I was told about this Island by a New Zealand friend I knew I had to visit. Good to see bird life adjusting and growing on island. As a keen birder was very happy to be able to see fivealso got three of my target birds. (& get photos) of my seven target birds. Two target birds seen but unable to get photos. did the short walk around the lagoon & lookout, as it was windy which proved to be the best choice for bird spotting. The lunch at the house was the best meal I had in the two weeks in New Zealand. This was also where I got three of my target birds. Will put this place on my to do list if I come again to the North Island.

A MEMORABLE AND INTERESTING VISIT TO A UNIQUE PLACE
Kapiti Island is such a familiar landmark for Wellingtonians. We learned so much about this unique place on this tour - thanks to Tim, our guide. He has extensive knowledge and an obvious passion for the natural environment. Highly recommended.

    Ngā mihi!
We had an absolutely beautiful day on Kāpiti Island. We were in awe of the amazing birdlife, and everything was so peaceful. Perfect weather too - sunny and cool. Our guide and the boat crew were wonderful, and we really appreciated learning about the history of iwi and hapū on Kāpiti, and the mihi whakatau when we arrived on the island. A good walk up the Wilkinson Track, with plenty of time for stopping and admiring the lush ngahere and manu. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Kāpiti Island Nature Tours!

    Well worth the price!
Our trip was 'third time lucky' as had been cancelled twice due to rough seas. The day we got was perfect - no wind or rain - however the more difficult Trig track (Rangiora area) was quite muddy. We did the self-guided tour and my son (very fit!) made it easily up the Trig in under 2 hours. I tried the track but had to turn back within half an hour, as otherwise it is too steep to go downhill. Enjoyed the lower Loop track and did around half the Wilkinson track to meet my son on his way down from the summit. Lots of birdsong and saw Kaka, tui, fantails, takehe, weka and saddlebacks close up.

    Kapiti Rangatira day tour
Bo was an amazing guide. They were supremely knowledgeable and found us kokako just before the boat left! All I could ask for was longer on the island :)

    A Nature Experience to Remember
Our group of ten ranging in ages from 65 years to a 1 year old had an awesome day at Rangatira Bay. The staff from Kapiti Island Nature Tours were friendly, helpful and informative. We observed most of the birds highlighted in the introductory talk (lucky enough to observatory the two Takahe) and the views from the track were awesome. We highly recommend the trip and for those who do not do feel able to do the challenging (steep) 2 hour walk to the viewing tower on Tuteremoana Summit, there are plenty of worthwhile walks around the information shelter up from the beach.

    Conservation island
A wonderful day trip out of Wellington to a hugely successful conservation project that helped kickstart the rescue of a number of endangered native birds. Small boat across, introductory session, three hours to walk around and up the island and an excellent lunch. Highly recommended.

The island is a treasure and we felt well looked after by Kapiti Island Nature Tours from check in, boat trips and guide information. Pania and the team at the North End also provided exceptional service all pitched 'just right' for the group. Food was delicious. And we got to see a kiwi :)

Our trip was an overnight stay ,allowing for two days exploring the island. This provided a different hiking and viewing experience on Kapiti. We paid a small additional amount for a guide on the first day .The guide provided additional stories about the history of the Island and greater Kapati area .He also was knowledgeable and shared additional information about the trees, shrubs and the different birds now inhabiting Kapiti.Thouroghly recommend if you love this type of information.

The Cabin accomodation was warm and comfortable.
The food was plentiful and tasty.
We went on the night Kiwi walk, however we were unlucky with our vowing Kiwis because of the wet weather.
The trip experience exceeded our expectations as it was so well organised, which allowed for the time to be stress free and relaxing and we could pace our hiking to suit our needs.

Just fantastic! We were welcomed warmly, learned so much about the history of the island and its journey as the earliest nature conservancy in New Zealand. We saw so many of the native birds that have been re-established and thrive now on the predator-free island. Menaaki, our guide, was so knowledgeable and such a gracious host, helping a group of strangers become a group of friends. Incredible food, camp-style accommodations, splendid walks and leisure time to relax with the views. Highly recommended. Well worth the price to stay the night and luckily spot a kiwi!

A great trip that we had been looking forward to for a long time. It did not disappoint. The bird life was amazing, the walks had great coastal views and the hospitality exceeded our expectations. The accommodation in a cabin suited our needs and we met a great group of like minded people. We are going to meet up with some in the near future.
Thoroughly recommend the kiwi overnight trip. We didn't manage to view any kiwi but still really appreciated our guide being able to show us blue penguins, geckos and large weta insects.
Loved the Ohau wines and Mac's ales.

The first day was spent at Rangatira where along with Takahe, Kaka, Hihi, Popokatea, we saw and heard Kokako. Magic! We stayed the night in a glamping tent at Waiorua Bay.We heard Kiwi but didn’t see them however there were lots of Kereru, Kaka and Blue Penguins. All the staff on Kapiti Island and Kapiti Island Tours were very professional as well as knowledgeable and friendly. Food was delicious. An amazing experience!

What a great weekend, very professional from start to finish. Very informative guides, wonderful hospitality and plenty of great food! We very much appreciated the thoughtfulness of the birthday cake. We loved all the birdlife even if we did miss out on seeing a kiwi, though heard lots of calling. But little blue penguins in abundance, including under our cabin so a noisy night! Would suggest evening showers as hot water first thing in the morning was in short supply. Would highly recommend, a wonderful experience.

We really enjoyed our two days on Kapiti Island. The walks are very interesting and well maintained, although generally all were uphill. We did see birds, but really the highlight was the scenery the solitude and the beautiful trees. We stayed in the glamping tent and that was very comfortable. the food in the Lodge is excellent and the wine flows freely. The hosts are linked to the island and can trace their ancestors. Sadly the kiwis did not appear but the host tried very hard to give us the best chance to see them. Boat transfers were very efficient. We live in the UK and I would do this trip again.

I had the most wonderful, peaceful stay on Kapiti Island. It was an amazing two days of hiking and exploring this beautiful island while enjoying amazing sights and bird wildlife. The hospitality at the lodge was beyond welcoming and I had a lovely evening. I stayed overnight in a lovely, rustic cabin. It was the perfect chance to get away from the city and spend the night in a relaxed, peaceful setting away from any technology or city noise. The food was delicious and served family style so I got the chance to get to know the lodge owner and the other guests. Thank you so much for an amazing two days! I highly recommend this tour to everyone!

The wonderful varied native birdlife and terrific hosts Pania and Manaaki. We saw some birds we had never seen before in NZ such as the the hihi (stitchbird) and kōkako, as well as other birds - takahē, tieke, kererū, tui, weka, and cheeky kaka. It was great to see these birds in their natural habitat rather than in a cage. It was great to have Pania explain the history of the island, including pre european and hear about her whānau. It was great the way Pania integrated te reo into normal conversation. We enjoyed the nightlime kiwi hunt - hearing but not seeing. The kaka on the front deck of the lodge were always entertaining. Manaaki's cooking was great, especially the fresh-smoked fish.

We started the trip with an interesting boat launch off the beach! The trails were easy and well-graded for any moderately fit walker. I added the guided hike to my trip, which wasn’t worth it, since the guide gave such an excellent introduction of the island history and bird life to all guests. The guided hike didn’t add much more. The lodge host was wonderful; open and informative regarding her family history. The meals were plentiful, with lots of choices, and so delicious. Kudos to the cooks! Cozy duvets kept me warm in the glamping tent, although the wind knocking the tent flaps about kept me up at night. The cabins may be quieter on windy nights. We did not see a kiwi during our nighttime stroll, but we did see a penguin!
