      Absolutely superb, highly recommend.
Wow, what a fabulous evening tour, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Kath our lovely guide was delightful, kind, considerate, so knowledgeable about the plants, wildlife and the area, she is so passionate about what she does it’s infectious and not only did she give us a great tour but also provided a hot drink and delicious cookies, thank you Kath all very much appreciated, we learnt so much. The scenery and nature are just stunning and the icing on the cake was the mountain reflections on the lake, just breathtaking. If you get a chance do this trip.

      Interesting, informative & beautiful
Interesting & informative, as well as a beautiful walk with exquisite scenery. Jerome, our guide, was excellent, having an extensive knowledge of the natural environment, as well as patient with our many questions! Thank you!

I would not recommend anyone to make any bookings through them.
We had the worst experience with Eco Valley tours. In a country know for its friendliness and courtesy, we rather had an unpleasant meet with the two people managing it at the time. The situation occurred because we were few minutes late (we understand that is not right in the first place, but some situations are beyond anyone’s control) but instead of trying to help us and provide us with a quick solution (which was easily available), the managers kept arguing with us and telling us that there was nothing they can do. They treated us with no respect and regard. Not only did they not explain us what could have been done, they were rude in their demeanour and conduct. I would not recommend anyone to make any bookings through them.

Why go on a guided tour
Many people ask why go on a guided tour when you can walk it yourself. The answer is that the guide actually shows you many things that you would not notice. He was a foraging expert so we tasted things as we went. He took us safely off trail on the rocky river bed. It was so worth it - and I met two other lovely families.

      Worth doing
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was a lovely walk through a beautiful rainforest & we learnt so much about the fauna & flora from our very engaging & knowledgeable guide, Cliff. You get to enjoy a tea break (or coffee, plus biscuits) whilst sitting on the old river bed & looking at the glacier. We would highly recommend this tour with a company who are clearly passionate about their surrounding environment, thanks again Cliff!

      Breathtaking Views and Beautiful Experience
Absolutely spectacular experience. Our guide, Jerome was wonderful and very knowledgeable of the landscapes and flora and fauna around. We also got to wade through the river and got to walk on the river bed. All n’ all, I highly recommend this walk. It’s always great to see a place when you know the story behind it.

      Fantastic Experience
Tyana was absolutely brilliant. I have read reviews that said you could easily do this walk without a guide. Yes, you could but.. the personal touch from someone who clealry knows the all there is to know about the trails, the eco system, the glacier was far better than trekking up without help. She brought us through the rainforest and pointed out all the interesting facts, she also stopped by a small hot pool which we would have never even noticed if we weren't with her. The hot chocolate sitting on the bed of the river looking up at the glacier was just magic. Do this tour, it was beautiful and informative.

      A wonderful experience
I did 4 tours with this company and all 4 were such amazing experiences. I would love to thank Cliff, Jerome and Tyana for making my time in Franz Josef so special and a true highlight of my holiday to New Zealand. I will be sharing your business with all my friends for their travels to New Zealand and I hope to return someday soon too. Thank you again. You guys are the best.

      An adventure through the rainforest
I booked onto this tour as part of a Stray tour group. When we first arrived at Franz Josef, we had ambitious plans: skydiving, the heli-hike etc. However, visitors to Franz Josef will soon realise how frequently it rains there - making the chances of doing such activities quite slim. After our initial plans had been cancelled, we booked onto the nature tour knowing the weather was rubbish, but with nothing else on offer that wasn't extremely expensive. I am so glad we did - it was a highlight of my entire holiday in New Zealand. Our tour guide Cliff (cow-boy hat and walking stick to hand) looked the part of a rough-and-ready adventurer taking us on a journey through the mythical landscape of the Fox glacier valley. The rain added to the atmosphere as we ventured off the track through the rainforest, trudging over the mosses and ferns carpeting the ground. The rocky glacier valley itself is spectacular - towering cliffs, colourful boulders, with alpine plants emerging through the cracks. We managed some decent views of the glacier as the clouds rose and we tucked into a biscuit and hot chocolate. Cliff was very knowledgeable and a great laugh. With everybody wearing their big waterproof coats (provided by the tour company), and Cliff leading us at the front, it felt like we were hobbits following Gandalf through Middle Earth - it was great.

Great informative few hours and the views ain’t bad too!
Picked up from local hotel and taken to the main hub. Met our guide and got into the minibus to the glacier with another couple. Tour guide took us up the main path giving us lots of info about the glacier and surrounding area. Also the taken off piste and tried some local edible leaves which we would have never done or known about. Once reaching the glacier view point we rested with a lovely warm drink prepared by the guide and took in the astonishing sight. After a nice period we returned back to the start where our minibus awaited. All in all a great few hours with a lovely and informative guide. Many thanks to Tianna.

      Okarito Nature Tour
We did the Okarito nature tour which was a half day one. The walk up to the lookout was quite hilly but very interesting. Cliff pointed out many very small orchids and other plants. We planted a tree in the nature reserve at the end which was a very special experience.

      Highlight
Learned so much. Right pace. Spectacular scenery. Highlights: Peter’s pool, the glacier of course, and photos of “trekkers” in early 1900s - men in suits and women in skirts and fashionable shoes. How did they do it

We booked this tour quite spontaneously and were very happy we did. It was amazing! As it had rained all night, we saw several waterfalls. Our guide Sophie gave us a lot of input about the plants and geology structures. You could really see her passion for it. Highly recommend this tour! We had a lot of fun.

My wife and I had a great adventure with Cliff. We explored a waterfall then took the path less trodden through the bush. The weather cleared and we were able to get a good view of the glacier. Then to top it off a cup of tea sitting on the stones of the river bed. Cliff shared with us plenty of stories and interesting information about the area. We highly recommend this tour.

We had not heard about Glacier Valley Tours but found them on the web. We took the 1/2 day Franz Josef Nature tour and it was wonderful. The guide was very knowledgeable about plants, animals, and the glacier geology and her passion for it all was apparent. She explained how and why things we were seeing developed as they did.

We did a wonderful winter walk with Cliff to see the glacier and so much more! While we walked up to the glacier overlook, Cliff showed us birds, native orchids, special mosses, and so much more. Cliff really knows the nature and history of the area and is a wonderful guide. As we enjoyed our hot drinks and biscuits, Cliff told us more about the region, about his work to remove invasive species, and the history of the glacier. Until you are there you don't really consider how odd it is to have a glacier in a temperate rainforest. Cliff also gave us some tips of where to see some other things we were seeking as we walked down the river valley. Later, as I visited the national park HQ and other spots in Franz Josef, i kept hearing and reading about Cliff and all he and his family do to preserve the nature of the area. I wish I could go back and do another tour with Cliff now so I could absorb more of his wonderful knowledge of and love for the area.

A great experience, Cliff has an amazing knowledge of the area and its history. By joining in on the tour I learned far more about the Franz Josef valley than I would had if I'd just gone for a walk by myself. Highlights were learning about glaciation, the waterfalls, orchids and seeing native birds.

Our guide Cliff was amazing and took us through the bush to all of these secret viewing locations. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and was able to answer any and all of our questions. Highlight for sure was the morning tea on the river bed.
I am lowish mobility and was easy enough for me to get around - Cliff was very accommodating at what speed I needed to go at.

Cliff was our guide for this wonderful tour. His knowledge and passion for flora, fauna and conservation was immense. This totally resonated with us being a farming couple. Cliff took us on hidden tracks down to the river and to the base of an amazing waterfall. The day was extremely wet but that didn’t take anything away from the tour, in fact it made it more exciting!
Thanks Cliff for a wonderful adventure

The tour was fabulous! Even if you usually want to jump off things/ climb stuff/or fly places, sometimes you just want - and need - a quiet walk in the forest. Sophie (and Cliff!) were interesting, engaging guides. We went off the beaten track and learned far more about the region than if we walked the usual paths. We didn't do the Fox Glacier walk but if we had the time would have combined them. Thanks to Glacier Valley Eco Tours 🙏👍😁, Andrew & Leanne, Adelaide SA
