        Absolutely superb, highly recommend.
Wow, what a fabulous evening tour, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Kath our lovely guide was delightful, kind, considerate, so knowledgeable about the plants, wildlife and the area, she is so passionate about what she does it’s infectious and not only did she give us a great tour but also provided a hot drink and delicious cookies, thank you Kath all very much appreciated, we learnt so much. The scenery and nature are just stunning and the icing on the cake was the mountain reflections on the lake, just breathtaking. If you get a chance do this trip.

Great Tours, Great Guides, you need to be fit! Will take you out of comfort zone
Before going on this trip to NZ, I knew with the amount of hiking I was going to be doing I needed to lose some weight and build up my fitness, this I did, but I don't think it made much difference. I was definitely stretched beyond my comfort zone on the tours I booked with this company, but I am SO glad I did them. I had an amazing day. Met some great people and saw some fantastic scenery. Cliff, Jerome and Tiana were absolutely brilliant! I booked both the Franz Josef walk and the Fox Glacier walk. Unfortunately in order to do both I was forced to do both on the same day as no one had booked into the one I had booked into and it was going to be cancelled. Without a hire car I had no other way of seeing the glaciers. I was pretty stuffed at the end of the day with doing both in the same day. By doing both on the same day, unfortunately my helicopter ride that I had booked in the afternoon was switched to the next day to accommodate both of these tours on the same day, and I didn't end up getting to do the helicopter coz of bad weather the next day, I would have been able to do it if I had kept my original time. So I was somewhat disappointed I missed out on my helicopter ride, but I did get to see Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers by foot and on a lovely sunny day, so I was very lucky. The Franz Josef walk was my true test. I really struggled, with the ruggedness, and I definitely finished the day with lots of scratches on my arms and legs. I was in a small group with very fit, athletic european women so I was conscious I may be slowing them down. I do have to say though, Cliff was SO patient with me, helped me up and onto rocks and slippery paths when I didn't think I could do it, and was very encouraging. I'm not overly sure footed and suffer from vertigo so there were some things I didn't think I could do, but with Cliff's help at some parts, I was able to do it. The times I said I'd turn back, he wouldn't let me and I'm so glad I didn't. By doing this tour we were able to safely go off the main track and see views from better vantage points. I really enjoyed myself despite being exhausted and the views were spectacular. Thanks Cliff for looking out for me and pushing me. I also thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon Fox Glacier tour. Jerome and Tiana were absolutely brilliant. Full of energy, fun, knowledgable and their commentary was amazing. I got a bit tired towards the end and Tiana stayed back with me so I wasn't on my own which I was really appreciative of. We had to walk a bit faster at the end as a big surge of weather was coming over and we made it back just in time before the heavy rain hit. If you don't have a hire car and want to do some great walking and get an education in the mean time, I highly recommend, but just be wary they operate on minimum numbers and if there are not minimum numbers, you need to be flexible to change your dates, or just not go at all. I was disappointed I missed out on my helicopter ride because I had to switch my dates of tours, but seeing the glaciers on foot was pretty spectacular and it was worthwhile.

        Worth doing
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was a lovely walk through a beautiful rainforest & we learnt so much about the fauna & flora from our very engaging & knowledgeable guide, Cliff. You get to enjoy a tea break (or coffee, plus biscuits) whilst sitting on the old river bed & looking at the glacier. We would highly recommend this tour with a company who are clearly passionate about their surrounding environment, thanks again Cliff!

Special walk with a great guide
We did a wonderful winter walk with Cliff to see the glacier and so much more! While we walked up to the glacier overlook, Cliff showed us birds, native orchids, special mosses, and so much more. Cliff really knows the nature and history of the area and is a wonderful guide. As we enjoyed our hot drinks and biscuits, Cliff told us more about the region, about his work to remove invasive species, and the history of the glacier. Until you are there you don't really consider how odd it is to have a glacier in a temperate rainforest. Cliff also gave us some tips of where to see some other things we were seeking as we walked down the river valley. Later, as I visited the national park HQ and other spots in Franz Josef, i kept hearing and reading about Cliff and all he and his family do to preserve the nature of the area. I wish I could go back and do another tour with Cliff now so I could absorb more of his wonderful knowledge of and love for the area.

        Enjoyable walk
We thoroughly enjoyed our walk with Tiana, our guide, who was very knowledgeable. We trekked through the rainforest, saw the glacier from the foothills and walked on dry riverbeds. We had a fantastic time.

        A wonderful experience
I did 4 tours with this company and all 4 were such amazing experiences. I would love to thank Cliff, Jerome and Tyana for making my time in Franz Josef so special and a true highlight of my holiday to New Zealand. I will be sharing your business with all my friends for their travels to New Zealand and I hope to return someday soon too. Thank you again. You guys are the best.

Seven out of 5 stars- Rain, Hail or Shine or ALL 3 combined!
Literally 7 stars out of 5 if ever possible! Quality, Immersive, Inspiring, awesome guide Tyana, left us spellbound and eating out of her hand and she's only 20yo! The complement to the scenery was Total ,bordering on Mandatory even if you had 3.5 hrs to spare in Franz Josef. Do NOT miss this! We were left thrilled and wanting more of the education on the fascinating botany, geology, sustainability, edible plants, glacial history and Tyana's awesome pictogram art on the sand! If possible choose the longest walk you can get with them as any shorter will leave you craving and in withrawal for more!

        A terrific tour find
We had not heard about Glacier Valley Tours but found them on the web. We took the 1/2 day Franz Josef Nature tour and it was wonderful. The guide was very knowledgeable about plants, animals, and the glacier geology and her passion for it all was apparent. She explained how and why things we were seeing developed as they did.

The tour gave us a unique experience with an extremely informed guide. We learned so much about the geology and the biology of the beautiful Franz Joseph glacier area. We highly recommend this tour.

        Okarito Nature Tour
We did the Okarito nature tour which was a half day one. The walk up to the lookout was quite hilly but very interesting. Cliff pointed out many very small orchids and other plants. We planted a tree in the nature reserve at the end which was a very special experience.

        Awesome 👌
Jerome's knowledge and enthusiasm was second to none. We spoke about nature, wildlife, geology and all aspects of life. He took us off track through glacial carve outs and we had some edible plants and time spent was thoroughly entertaining. Not to be missed!!

        Amazing bush and glacier hike
Our guide Tiana was fantastic! So knowledgeable about both the botany of the forest and the geology of the glacier. The views of the glacier were spectacular! She even provided hot beverages and cookies from her knapsack! Highly recommend. (The trail can be quite wet and muddy. Waterproof hiking shoes recommended!)

We booked this tour quite spontaneously and were very happy we did. It was amazing! As it had rained all night, we saw several waterfalls. Our guide Sophie gave us a lot of input about the plants and geology structures. You could really see her passion for it. Highly recommend this tour! We had a lot of fun.

This walking tour was fabulous and it was great being out in nature. Our guide, Kath, was so enthusiastic about the hike and her knowledge of the plants and wildlife along the path was great. Loved the cup of hot tea while getting a great view of the glacier. It was nice that they provided transportation to and from our hotel. Would recommend this is you have a love of nature.

Many people ask why go on a guided tour when you can walk it yourself. The answer is that the guide actually shows you many things that you would not notice. He was a foraging expert so we tasted things as we went. He took us safely off trail on the rocky river bed. It was so worth it - and I met two other lovely families.

Unlike the promise, you can't see the glacier from close. You won't be able to go further than anyone else. The two hours walk at Fox was nice and the guide gave his best. But for that simple walk, a guide is waste of money.

Hi there, thanks for your review. unfortunately due to Climate change we can't safely get close to the glaciers anymore. We believe our tour is still excellent and informative nature tour, and if you want to get close to the glacier then you need to do a Helihike. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels in our beautiful Glacier Country NZ

Picked up from local hotel and taken to the main hub. Met our guide and got into the minibus to the glacier with another couple. Tour guide took us up the main path giving us lots of info about the glacier and surrounding area. Also the taken off piste and tried some local edible leaves which we would have never done or known about.
Once reaching the glacier view point we rested with a lovely warm drink prepared by the guide and took in the astonishing sight. After a nice period we returned back to the start where our minibus awaited. All in all a great few hours with a lovely and informative guide. Many thanks to Tianna.

A lovely nature walk, very well explained by our knowledgeable guide, who was able to point out many things of interest. We were very lucky in that the cloud lifted just as we arrived at the glacial view point and the sun shone for us. Bonus was a cup of tea at the viewing area all carried by the guide!

Absolutely spectacular experience. Our guide, Jerome was wonderful and very knowledgeable of the landscapes and flora and fauna around. We also got to wade through the river and got to walk on the river bed. All n’ all, I highly recommend this walk. It’s always great to see a place when you know the story behind it.

Cliff was our guide and we had a great afternoon. Lots to learn about the area and it’s history - both recent and ancient. We got to see areas we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. Such a nice way to see the glacier and admire its beauty from afar in an environmentally conscious way.

In case you wonder whether spending money on a tour of the easily accessible part of Fox Glacier is really worth it: It definitely is!

The tour with our friendly guide Cliff felt like being on a hiking trip with a friend who happens to know a lot about glaciers, their history, geology and biology as well.

Cliff took us to the area at the foot of the glacier which you are only allowed to enter if you are accompanied by a guide. It was a really cool and informative tour that including having tea and cookies at the foot of the glacier - which is absolutely awesome!

Thank you for the trip, Cliff!
