Spending this much money for our family was a big decision, however this day was the highlight of our entire holiday.
Robin our tour guide and Jan the owner were simply amazing. Jan responded to every email and question we had promptly and even arranged for our three year old to have a car seat.
They rang our cruise ship whilst we were still at sea to confirm the docking time and met up for our fantastic tour. Not only were the destinations amazing the car was impeccably clean and the 'snack packs' were a surprise and extremely generous. We highly recommend this company and tour and will use them on our next vacation to New Zealand.

This tour exceeded our expectations and we had a great day. The tour guide (Rolf) was very organised, explained at the start that he wanted us back 1 hour before our ship disembarks and provided us we a large bag of snacks as it was a long day of activities. Rolf spoke a lot about the land we drove past on the way as well. Highly recommend ! This tour was also much more affordable then the ship shore excursions.

Our guide picked us up at Tauranga Port where we got off our Cruise; full day out starting with Hobbiton then Rotorua sightseeing. Our guide, Phillip was lovely and showed us a lot extra along the way. Both Hobbiton and Rotorua are a must if visiting NZ. Big bag of snacks supplied by Zealandier. Back to cruise with plenty of time to spare. Truly awesome!

We had read such glowing reviews about Zealandier Tours, so I was really excited about our tour with them. We were off the boat quickly and put on our bus which had a nice little bag of snacks and water. Then they asked for two volunteers to join another bus that was leaving right then. We volunteered and gave up our nice seats together in the front on Rolf’s bus (we see now in reviews that was a mistake as Rolf gets great reviews). You know the saying "No good deed goes unpunished?" We lived it today. Our new bus was full and we ended up sitting three rows apart. This made sharing the snack bag difficult. Our snack bag on the first bus had two of everything which was nice. Our second snack bag had only one of everything to share, including a bottle of water, as did the one for the couple next to me in the back, so we assume this was the norm. Luckily we had brought our own water and we had a big breakfast on the ship. Our guide seemed all over the place. First he said that he normally takes people straight to the Shire at Hobbiton but sometimes, they do what we were doing which was catching the bus in Matamata that would take us to the Shire where we would pick up more people and then go to Hobbiton, get off the bus, do the tour, get on the bus, and then he would pick us up at the Shire. It was all very confusing when he was telling us but luckily our guide at the Shire understood what was going on and was able to explain it and make sure we got off at the right place. I'm not sure why we didn't do the “usual plan”. Maybe our guide wanted a coffee break in Matamata? I'm sure he talked about stuff we were passing, but we couldn't hear or understand him at all in the back as his microphone rarely worked. We also never knew when we were supposed to meet back to leave. So we never knew how long we had anywhere. Hobbiton was easy since it was fully guided, but at Te Puia, I didn't know if I had time to wait in line for the Moari performer group shot, nor did we know how long we had at the geysers before we needed to meet up with our guide. Also, the tour blurb and some of the reviews mentioned a dress up photo op, but that never happened nor did we know why it didn’t happen. Maybe we didn't have time for that although we were returned to the ship with time to spare. It all just felt disorganized. The places that we went were lovely though, and we actually enjoyed being turned over to our guide at Hobbiton and our Maori guide at Te Puia. So for the main attractions we can't complain and if you need transport to those attractions and to have everything pre-paid, this might be a decent option as you might have better luck than we did.

Hi dleighb, thankyou for sharing your experience, I wonder if you can share with me who your guide was and what date you took this tour - so I can look back and ask your guide the relevant questions and find out from them why you had such a poor experience. You should not have suffered this - it really is a great tour opportunity if you are up for it. It is a long day, and a day when you have to keep moving to achieve it, but you do visit tow awesome attractions and its your driver/guided responsability to ensure they give you a great experience also. They are to make you feel welcome, they need to look after your comfort and welbeing as best as they can, they need to get you safely between A & B and give you interesting facts along the way, for those who are interested. Firstly you should not have had to share a snack pack which is designed for our single passengers. We make two sorts - one for couples with two of everything and one for singles. These packs are easily identified within their bags supplied without having to look too hard. Your guide should have known and given you both one each if there were only singles left. We always have spare incase we dont guess the amount of singles required. We supply these snack packs as it is a very full days itinerary with very little time often when we can stop and make a proper lunch opportunity, so we try to keep you hydrated and keep your blood sugars relevant for the day along with keeping in line with a Hobbits lifestyle where they eat often throughout the day. We supply this in a sign written and appropriate designed tote bag which is a keep sake for you to take home and reuse as a carry bag. By using these we are trying to reduce our plastic and landfil waste to protect te environment. With regards to getting transferred to a Hobbit bus in Matamata - it is sometimes neccessary for us to do this on some days, this is due to trying to accomodate cruise ship passengers on the movie set within the trimeframes we have ashore. Hobbiton movie set is booked out most days over the main time period when cruise ships come into port. Reason being cruise ships onboard sales take precidence over the most favourable times and for us to achieve a double attraction in two totally differing regions all within the window of opportunity within the time period - we have to be a little creative and we are permitted to join the bus at Matamata, sadly it sounds like you were obviously not well informed of why we do this. Again until I can find out what date that you visited, who your guide was, I can not say why you were asked to move vehicles - there are generally only two reasons for this - and that is if somebody is travelling with friends but has not cross referenced this at time of booking - then when they show up for tour - find themselves in differing vehicles and ask why they cant be in the same vehicle. The other reason may be that some people are late to show up for an earlier tour departure time of which the vehicle needs to depart or miss their tour opportunity on the movie set and if somebody has shown early for another we may ask that they move into the early tour departure vehicle. Hobbiton movie set set is fully booked out most days throughout the summer period and if we miss our tour time we dont get another chance to get on next tour as its just booked out. We do our very best to accomodate everybody, as we appreciate everybody from a cruise ship has travelled some distance to get here and probably will not have that opportunity again but sometimes we are pushed beyond what is reasonable. I am pleased the guides at the attractions made up for our shortfall on the day. In regards to dress up opportunity - Hobbiton have some costumes in the Green Dragon Inn available for this and they have just recently been audited for Health & Safety and have denied us the opportunity to bring our swords onto the movie set. Someting we have done for amny years without any issues but recently we have been denied - I am sorry my guide did not tell you this either. My guides who do this tour are very well trained and have done this tour itinerary for quite some time so should have provided you with a great days touring. Sounds like being moved from one vehicle to another did not go so well - and I am really sorry you came away feeling so disapointed. I look forward to finding out from you who your guide was on this day so I can share this feedback with him and make sure this does not transpire again to anybody else who takes our tours. Please accept my apologies for this experience. I know it does not change the outcome for you - but thankyou for taking time to share as it may change the outcome for somebody else as I address the issues you have raised. Warm regards Jan Davies

Jan was so lovely. I was the only person on the tour. She migh cancel it but she allow me to take it, because it was my last day at New Zeland. That was a really really good gesture.
During the tour, Shona was my guide, She was wonderful she explained me everithing about Rotorua and we even stopped at a kiwi orchard and she explained me everithing about that. Plus she showed me all the main points duriong all the journey.
Hobbiton was amazing, much more than expected.

Thank you Jan and Shona for making my last day at New zealand the best one of the trip.

Zealandia Tours is 100% recommendable

We came in by cruise ship and it was delayed a couple of hours due to weather. The tour company was flexible, and our guide Terry was tremendous. There were some fussy young kids and he was so patient and engaging. They provided a much nicer lunch than we expected in Rotorua, which was a nice surprise! Hobbiton is organized to handle many groups, but be prepared to be patient as people take pics. Enjoy the incredible coolness and overall beauty or you might get frustrated. It was rainy, but they provided umbrellas at Hobbiton. Would totally recommend this tour, just be prepared for crowds.

Instead of booking through our cruise ship for this shore excursion, and paying triple the price, we booked on our own for the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour including Rotorua. This was MOST fortunate for us. The cruise ship arrived four hours late and ALL of the tours booked directly through the cruise ship were cancelled. Our tour went, and although we did not see Rotorua, we did see Hobbiton, which was terrific (also rated). It was a fraction of the price for a small tour that actually happened even when the cruise ship schedule changed due to weather. Lucky for us we booked directly and NOT through the cruise ship.

Let me start by saying that the Zealander tour of hobbiton and Tauranga was very professional and a very informative tour.
Rolf the tour guide was excellent and very on top of things.
I could go on and on about this but this tour was excellent.
Plain and simple.
If you don’t do this tour you’ve made a huge fumble.
My honest opinion.
