        Lovely experience!
It was a very good trip, very nice guide. I waited so many years for this trip, and I finally made it. Cheeky Kiwi was a good choice of company to go with. I certainly recommend them.

See a lot in a short amount of time!
Our tour guide was Ali and he was a blast!! He spent time making sure we felt happy and got to know the members in our group. The cheeky kiwi company works hard to ensure that their guests are well taken care of. It is a lot of time spent in the van traveling, but it worked well for us because we didn’t want to rent our own car for this particular trip. You can see so much in just one day!

        Nice trip
Great tour. Grant was informative and helpful. Wish we have more time for lunch at hobbiton. An hour would be perfect. But we only had about 40 min.

        Holiday Highlight
We had a great tour. We were picked up from our hotel, drinks and snacks were provided and breaks built into our trip to the Hobbiton Movie Set. Along the way our driver provided us with an ongoing commentary about the places we drove through which made the trip most interesting. When we go to Hobbiton we were told when to collect our tickets for our Hobbiton bus and when it would leave. The Hobbiton tour was just brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. The driver met us at the end of the tour at the Green Dragon Inn. We had a good trip back to Auckland. Thank you tho the driver for a great day !

        Great day out
We had a great day and was so glad we chose to go with Kiwi Travel. We were unsure whether to drive to Hobbiton ourselves, but Simon was very friendly and knowledgeable making it a great day out. Everything was very well organised. Thank you for a wonderful day we will never forget 😀

Great Tour Guide, and Some Cool Sights.
Our tour guide Grant was a fantastic driver and tour leader. He had some good jokes to Crack, information to disperse about New Zealand or the activities we were going to do. As well as, making sure we were all there and happy for the van ride. Waitomo Glowworms was a cool experience with a little walk through a cave with some glow worms to a raft through the river in the cave with a lot more glow worms. It was a stunning sight. It was also a nice drive out to the Hobbiton movie set. Followed by the Hobbiton tour which was really nice they even had opened up a hobbit house for you to walk in! Overall a great experience!

        Disappointing experience
Waitomo Caves and Te Puia trip on 3rd April 2024- I would like to start by saying that both the sites are amazing. NZ is fantastic. However, this review is for our tour guide John. An elderly couple from New York were late by 5 minutes during their pickup in the mornings. John berated them, and gave them a really hard time. The trip went downhill from there. He drove recklessly on our way to Waitomo and kept talking about why people should not be late. He was right, people should not be late. However, driving recklessly was no way to make up for it. Not only that, he was quite rude to people who asked if we could stop for a coffee or a loo break. Fortunately we reached Waitomo on time. While at Waitomo, he gave us strict instructions- “ I don’t care when the tour ends, I want you at the car park by 9:45 am”. One person remarked that we were being herded like sheep, another said that it reminded them of a school field trip. We felt rushed, under pressure and very unwelcome. This is life, things can go wrong, however John lacks basic patience and understanding required in this profession. If this was not enough, he proceeded to crack very vulgar and sexist jokes without realizing that there were both children as well as seniors on board. Almost no one would laugh at them, yet he did not give up. Know your audience dude. The icing on the cake was a hot mic situation when he was caught passing racist comments and commenting about how each Asian race “destroyed” NZ. “Oh the Chinese have done this, the Japanese did that” etc. He turned the mic off a min into this conversation he was having with someone. While on the way back to Auckland, he drove very recklessly again, keeping half an eye on the road and the other one-half reading Whatsapp messages, and vulgar jokes off the internet. I would not recommend Cheeky Kiwi to anyone.

        First time in NZ
Punctual arrival at the hotel. Amazingly friendly and kind driver and tour guide in one, thanks again John! Snacks and water are provided along the way. Comfortable and clean bus with phone charging facility. Fantastic programs, gave an unforgettable experience. I especially liked that we got to know the countries of our travel companions during the tour, that made it really personal. If I visit New Zealand again I will definitely plan another tour with them. Reliable and kind team!

Driver was amazing and kind. Told stories about NZ as we drove to and from Hobbiton. Don also had an awesome Playlist to listen to on the long drive.

        What an amazing day
What an amazing day! The bus was comfortable, the trip went well and the guide (Cameron) was incredible. You could tell he was someone with knowledge and passion for New Zealand and he managed to convey that very well. Hobbiton was spectacular, even for me who has never seen the movies. The caves I don't think are worth the money. If I'd known, I'd have passed and just gone to hobbiton! If you want to do a day trip like this I strongly recommend that you do it with this company.

Amazing trip to Glow Worm Cave and Hobbiton ! Must do on your To Do List !
This tour was incredible …starting at 6 am pick up at your hotel to the 2 hour drive first to the Glow Worm Cave Tour…just to let you know in between the 2 hour drive we did stop at the halfway point for bathroom break and food (on your own). At the cave the walking was moderate with stairs going down and up (so if you have any leg problems be wary…but not too bad). The boat ride at the end was fun. Then off you Hobbiton…the hour drive was fun with facts from your driver of Hobbiton and New Zealand (fun things to do). Once there we went to get food at the cafe (reasonable price) and then an exploratory visit to the gift shop (lots of gift items to pick from). The tour itself was fabulous and once again it’s waking up and down hills so be wary…not too demanding. Lots of picture taking and the. To go into the Red Door or Green Door Shire was AMAZING! To the finish of the tour was to go tn the Green Dragon Pub for your free Ale, Beer, Cider or Ginger Beer ! What a fun tour…would recommend to family and friends ! Enjoy !!! 😉

        Great friendly service
Don was an amazing guide, friendly, gave interesting and important historical stories on our trip down to Hobbiton, included te reo Maori, took us to a lovely ice cream parlor, and rolled with the punches when the radio in the hire van he'd been given was misbehaving. Transfer to and from the Hobbiton tour was seamless. Would book another tour with Cheeky Kiwi

Beaches that look like they're from a screensaver, and this Cathedral Cove spot – I half expected mermaids to pop up. Our little gang was cool, not too crowded, so vibes were chill. The guide knew the deal and threw in some local stories, which was like the cherry on top. All in all, if you're up for some legit nature beauty, that tour's a solid shout.

The sight were beautiful, there's no debating that, but the tour was poorly run.

Our van was nearly full, and the air circulation was poor. We were told if the a/C was used too much, it would freeze up. The "guide" had 2 different microphones and neither one worked, so the only people who heard any commentary were those in the front seats.

We visited Hot Water beach first. We then drove on to Cathedral cove. We were told were would be doing lunch around 1:30 pm after our visit. My husband and I hiked down to the beach, had a swim and hiked back up to the meeting point. We then proceeded to wait 50 more minutes before the guide showed up. Mind you, were were the oldest participants on this tour and never expected to be the first back. The guide never gave the group a meeting time, so everyone came back whenever.

Thirdly, we were pretty hungry at this point, as we had met the shuttle at 7 am. The guide takes us to a town with 5 or so lunch options. Sadly, all of them closed at 2 pm and it was now 3 pm. The only "dining venue" was a taco stand at a gas station. The guide should have known the restaurants would be closed and perhaps stopped for lunch BEFORE heading to Cathedral cove.

I would have much preferred to do this trip myself, but was unable to find a rental car available.

This was not a professionally executed tour. Too bad, as the scenery is truly stunning.

We have investigated this. Yes we must apologise for this day. Training for the new staff member and extra protocol has been added to stop this from happening again. You will see from other reviews this day normally goes very smoothly.

There were 6 of us and were able to travel in a 15 passenger van. That really made it comfortable. Andre was incredible. We saw great sites and beaches and I’m so glad we had the experience. Know that it’s about 12 hours from door to door but it didn’t feel like that. I would highly recommend this tour.

The tour group was small with 11 participants, which was great. The guide Brandon was helpful and professional, gave his best to accommodate and take care of every participant. Pick up was on time, the trip was relaxing and wasn’t at all rushing from one spot to another just to check off the lists. Would definitely sign up for another Cheeky Kiwi tour again!

We enjoyed this tour from start to finish. It was a fantastic day out. Our tour guide Mani was amazing. He had such a wealth of knowledge and was so friendly and involved in our whole experience. I would have to say he has been the best tour guide we have ever had. The highlight of the day was our visit to Cathedral Cove ( such a breathtaking place) and Hot Water Beach. A very different experience for us

Apart from getting early for the trip I could not have any complaint for the tour! We were on a practically private tour as some others cancelled the booking. We had a fun and great day exploring Cathedral Cove and afterwards Hot Water Beach. The two sights are so uniquely NZ that I am grateful to have put them in schedule. We have two great guides, Andre who is a Jude Law lookalike, is very energetic and chill person who has also helped us to look for a best spot in digging hot water from the beach; and Grant who is very nice, considerate and informative. We enjoyed the tour so much and thumbs up to the guides (and of course the good weather)!

Awesome excursion with an awesome tour guide, Brendan. One thing to note is that hike to Cathedral Cove does require a good level of fitness as the hike in and out is multiple steep cliffs

Please note we did not cancel this tour the customer did and without a valid reason. This customer decided they didn’t want to go on tour at 7pm the night before. The reason it had been raining days before and they we worried about slips. The day the tour was due to go the weather was stunning and we were going nowhere near any slips. No of course if you try and cancel within 12 hours of your tour departing and without a good reason we are not going to refund. This was a sellout tour and we have no time to resell your seats.
