About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- neiltU7338UN0 contributionsA wonderful NZ experience. Now I have to go home and rewatch “The Hobbit” and LOTR. The drive down and back was interesting as was the commentary by our driver. Wai-O-Tapu was more than I expected and the leg workout was a plus. Great value for the money.Written 11 December 2024
- 569gisellec0 contributionsA tour to recommendMichael and Jeff were nice, funny and entertaining. A very great tour, I recommend. I was left at my hotel in rotorua around noon.Written 11 December 2024
- J5948GUtaylorb0 contributionsBig day but worth itThis is a fast and furious day from Auckland to Rotorua and back which is just what I wanted. Faced with not much time, I had to make decisions as to what I wanted to see and what I could skip and this tour was perfect. I opted for the Wai-o-Tapu and Te Puia segments. The tour is essentially your transportation and travel agent for the day; the guide makes sure you get to where you need to go in a timely manner. When you get to your "excursions" the guide may hang around or make their way to pick up/drop off another part of your small group. For my excursions, I joined a timed tour or walked around the area as a self-guide. Wai-O-Tapu was a MUST DO! There were surprises around every corner.Written 11 December 2024
- monidaly0 contributionsVery enjoyable tourGreat tour. I particularly enjoyed seeing the glow worms. Mark, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and gave us information on every location we visited and most locations we passed through, as well as tips on what to do for the rest of our trip in Auckland.Written 11 December 2024
- BiancaPeter0 contributionsGreat day filled with activities. The tour was well organised with plenty of comfort stops along the way where you can get out and stretch your legs and use a toilet, or simply wait in the minivan if you didn't want to get out. The Waitomo caves were simply amazing and the glow worms are a must see! Rotorua was great and the Te Puia experience was a fantastic little insight into Māori culture and obviously the geothermal springs were fantastic. The tour guide, Joseph, was friendly, informative and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely do another tour with Cheeky Kiwi Tours.Written 10 December 2024
- Vacation162771415340 contributionsI’m not going to recommend my friends to go with this company because of the attitude of the driver. The driver is not friendly and makes personal comments about the customer. Also when he knows one person is still not in the car, he closes the door of the car, making the customer feel very nervous and uneasy.Written 10 December 2024
- Venture102794902240 contributionsWould recommendOur driver Ali was the best! He was so nice, knowledge and funny! We had a lot of fun cracking jokes about NZ/Australia rivalry. Hobbiton is a mast see even for someone who is not a big LOTR fun. Rotorua and hot/mud pools good experience but a bit stinky 😉Written 9 December 2024
- soeunk8250 contributionsAmazing time touring Wai O Tapu & Te PuiaWe had a wonderful time with our guide, Grant. He was very kind and tried to make the entire process as engaging as possible. He also tried to get to know each member of the group on a personal level which was greatly appreciated! The tour was also run very smoothly, and Grant told us the exact timing that we would be picked up and transported to the next touring location, as well as seamless transfers for other tours within the group as well. Pickup and drop off was super easy/seamless, and tour views were amazing!! If you are looking for a day trip with everything set and planned for you, I would highly recommend booking with this group! An amazing and memorable trip for my family and I!Written 9 December 2024
- Discover098788727620 contributionsSimon is the best!Simon was amazing! He was very welcoming and connected with all of us in the van! He also greeted all tourists by hand a and did the same when he dropped us off. He even got off the van each time someone was picked up or dropped off just to personally say hello or good bye.Written 9 December 2024
- MattyBerrry0 contributionsAmazing Bay of Islands!!!This was hands down the best tour I've done in New Zealand. It fits in so much without feeling rushed. Bay of Islands is such an amazing place to visit and the forest on the west coast was amazing. We got to see dolphins and whales on the cruise which was so cool. I can't recommend this tour enough.Written 9 December 2024

This trip can be the best highlight of any visit to the North Island! Our guide Michael was efficient and prepared – he took us to the Hot Water Beach first as it was a low tide and we could enjoy its very unique feature. We used the shovel and the bucket that Michael brought to dig holes that quickly filled with natural hot springs water and to cool down with ocean water. After soaking in the self-made spa at the Hot Water Beach, Michael took us for a short hike [and for some - for a refreshing swim] in the stunning Cathedral Cove! We had enough time to enjoy the beaches and the amazing views.

Unfortunately, we had rainy, windy and cloudy weather on the day of our tour. Despite this, the scenery was still great to see. Quite a few things didn't go to plan along the way, with the first pitstop on the drive closed on the day, the weather being too windy for the hot water beach to be enjoyable and experienced to the full and a car accident meaning we were stuck in a small town for a few hours waiting for the road to be reopened. Of course, all of these were unavoidable factors and our guide Michael handled these with confidence and got us home safely while trying to help the group have the best time possible. As others have noted, the walk to Cathedral Cove can be challenging and some families with small children did find this difficult at times, however the guide took things slow and supported the families.

My husband and I did the Coromandel Wanderer Small Group tour as part of our honeymoon, and we had a fantastic time. Our guide Grant was very friendly, funny, and knowledgeable! He was also happy to answer any questions we had. The small group made it easy to ask questions and get to know both Grant and our fellow tour attendees.
Plus, Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are absolutely gorgeous! I would highly recommend this tour and would love to do another one with Cheeky Kiwi Travel in the future.

Beaches that look like they're from a screensaver, and this Cathedral Cove spot – I half expected mermaids to pop up. Our little gang was cool, not too crowded, so vibes were chill. The guide knew the deal and threw in some local stories, which was like the cherry on top. All in all, if you're up for some legit nature beauty, that tour's a solid shout.

The sight were beautiful, there's no debating that, but the tour was poorly run.
Our van was nearly full, and the air circulation was poor. We were told if the a/C was used too much, it would freeze up. The "guide" had 2 different microphones and neither one worked, so the only people who heard any commentary were those in the front seats.
We visited Hot Water beach first. We then drove on to Cathedral cove. We were told were would be doing lunch around 1:30 pm after our visit. My husband and I hiked down to the beach, had a swim and hiked back up to the meeting point. We then proceeded to wait 50 more minutes before the guide showed up. Mind you, were were the oldest participants on this tour and never expected to be the first back. The guide never gave the group a meeting time, so everyone came back whenever.
Thirdly, we were pretty hungry at this point, as we had met the shuttle at 7 am. The guide takes us to a town with 5 or so lunch options. Sadly, all of them closed at 2 pm and it was now 3 pm. The only "dining venue" was a taco stand at a gas station. The guide should have known the restaurants would be closed and perhaps stopped for lunch BEFORE heading to Cathedral cove.
I would have much preferred to do this trip myself, but was unable to find a rental car available.
This was not a professionally executed tour. Too bad, as the scenery is truly stunning.

We have investigated this. Yes we must apologise for this day. Training for the new staff member and extra protocol has been added to stop this from happening again. You will see from other reviews this day normally goes very smoothly.

There were 6 of us and were able to travel in a 15 passenger van. That really made it comfortable. Andre was incredible. We saw great sites and beaches and I’m so glad we had the experience. Know that it’s about 12 hours from door to door but it didn’t feel like that. I would highly recommend this tour.

The tour group was small with 11 participants, which was great. The guide Brandon was helpful and professional, gave his best to accommodate and take care of every participant. Pick up was on time, the trip was relaxing and wasn’t at all rushing from one spot to another just to check off the lists. Would definitely sign up for another Cheeky Kiwi tour again!

Great Tour, great sights, amazing landscapes, perfect service and wonderful guide Brendan. Even if it was raining we saw great places and the program was adopted to the weather conditions. The guide provided umbrellas and plastics for support.

We enjoyed this tour from start to finish. It was a fantastic day out. Our tour guide Mani was amazing. He had such a wealth of knowledge and was so friendly and involved in our whole experience. I would have to say he has been the best tour guide we have ever had. The highlight of the day was our visit to Cathedral Cove ( such a breathtaking place) and Hot Water Beach. A very different experience for us

Such a cool experience and worth every penny! All the views were incredible and our guide was so nice. I wish we had more time at Cathedral Cove, we only had 45 min at the actual beach but we did stop to see a waterfall on the way back that was so cool!
Would definitely recommend if visiting the area! I was picked up at my hotel at 6:45am and got back around 5pm.
