Climbing down into a cave isn't something that I thought I would ever do. I was slightly nervous but it was so worthwhile. The climb down, and the walk through the cave wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was very easy and enjoyable. Katie (our guide) was really supportive and made everyone at ease. It was incredibly fun. The best part for me was the group singing happy birthday to me, in the dark, while we're all floating under the glow worms. It was a surreal experience. Highly recommend.

We went on the Black Labyrinth tour and omg! It was amazing! We had so much fun, our tour guides were fantastic, kept us safe and made sure we had a great time all the while showing us through the caves. The caves themselves were beautiful, the glow worms were so serene and like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The warm soup afterwards was definitely needed, but cannot thank our guides enough for the amount of fun we had throughout the day. Immersive, spectacular and a breathtaking experience.

I had done the tour with my mother while we were traveling New Zealand and was blown away by this experience. The staff was over the top friendly and accommodating. I had a broken wrist and was limited with the mobility. The staff made every accommodation possible for me to still enjoy the experience. Helping me abseil, zip line and climb the waterfall was necessary as would not have been possible on my own. The glow worms were great and beautiful however the take away from the trip was the adventure in the caves. I would recommend this option if you are between tours, spending hours in the caves was well worth it to get the full experience!

The guides provide snacks while on the caves and a meal after. Vegan options were available!

We had a great day in the caves. Definitely recommend black water rafting as the best and funnest way to explore the Waitamo caves and see lots of glow worms. Using the tubes and jumping off waterfalls on them was super fun! Our guides were hilarious and made it a really fun and safe experience. Would do again!

I toured the caves in 1993, but I still remember it as a great adventure. After donning our wet suits, we were taught to absail on a small cliff near the cave entrance. Then we dropped into the cave--I can't remember how far, but it was fun. Then we sat in our inner tubes and floated through the glittering cave ceilings, breaking for a snack. Finally, we hiked out up through a narrow cleft toward the light with the water pouring in on us...just a bit to make it feel magical bursting through to the surface. Probably that trip has 19 different insurance liabilities and cautions now lol.

My friend and I did the 'black labyrinth' cave tour and it was one of the best things I have ever done, definitely a must do in Waitomo.

Martin and Taylor were excellent guides, making everyone laugh and have a great time. The tour lasted around 3 hours with free soup & bagel at the end which is perfect after being in the cold water.

Highly recommend!

It's a great adventure, maybe a little challenging physically but completely worth it. Our tour-guides made sure we had a good time. Unfortunately, I can't remember your names, but one of you (the young woman) were from Austria and the young man was one of the local people. Anyway - guys, you were awesome. :) The place itself is truly mesmerising. When we entered the biggest cave, the whole group suddenly stopped talking and started enjoying this beautiful moment.

What an excellent adventure. Staff were patient and skilled, very entertaining and made sure everyone in the group had a great time. Lots of explanations and guiding us through both easy and difficult parts of the caving experience. Not for the unfit. A delicious lunch afterwards!

Fantastic guides and definitively worth doing once. I think I has expecting too much in terms of the what the glow worms would be like. They were good but I was not blown away as I had hoped. The guides are really helpful and good fun, and Max the guide has an amazing voice. They work on a 6 to 1 ratio which means that you are well looked after and they are also very patient and helpful.

My partner and I did this as total beginners. Absolutely awesome from start to finish. Smooth running, great kit, excellent guides. Magical glow worms! Warm showers at the end very appreciated too. Thanks!
