I took the 3 day course. Was by myself so they turned it into a 2 day course with private guide for the same price, which was very kind. They taught me everything I wanted to know and it felt very professional and very thorough. I learned a lot and had an amazing experience. Would defenitely recommend.

Had an amazing experience on a 3-day trip with lead guide Llewellyn! We climbed in three different spots, each one totally unique. Llew is an expert climber and a treasure trove of knowledge about the outdoors, the New Zealand landscape, history, and good music. He's a really good cook too! This was absolutely the best part of my 2-week trip to NZ. Hope I can come back and will definitely be giving Wanaka Rock Climbing a call when I do.

We did the DB Eh buttress route into the Double and Single cone ridge traverse and thought it was a blast! The route was fun, and the ridge traverse was incredible - strongly recommend this itinerary if you have some climbing experience. Lew was very responsive over email, is exceptionally experienced in the mountains, and was great fun to hang out with for the day - probably the best rock guide we've encountered. Strongly recommend Wanaka Rock Climbing! Note: we visited in December 2017... belated review :)

Truly incredible! We climbed the multipitch route DB Eh? A long slab up the buttress below Double Cone peak, then linked up a traverse of Double and Single Cone peaks. Our guide Callum was fantastic, friendly, very knowledgeable and great fun to spend a day out in the mountains with. The climbing was amazing, with the best rock, breathtaking views and the perfect amount of exposure. Couldn't have felt better taken care of, and safer the whole way. If you like climbing, then you have to go on a trip with these guys. Perfect celebration for our honeymoon!

What a great time we had! Llew was so helpful from the planning phase right through to the technical demonstrations. Whilst we crammed a hell of a lot in over such a short period of time, we never felt rushed and were still able to enjoy the pitches whilst learning tonnes. Highly recommend this professionally run climbing company. Special mention to Kim the Tasman - Ice cool. When we got back to the UK to stock on some gear ready for our next adventure, the guy in the shop knew Llew and the company and also testified to it's professionalism. Great time had by all. If you're climbing in Wanaka, there's only one place to go!

We had a nice day out climbing although I sat our the latter half of the day due to losing my drone... However our guide was not capable of doing harder routes as he was not a strong climber. One of us did not feel comfortable in the multi pitch hikes due to the low skill level of our guide. The personal hygiene was also a bit of an issue.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Level 2 Development Course with Wanaka Rock Climbing. The instructors (Llew + Callum) were very personable and enthusiastic to teach. They also adapted the course depending on our existing skills and what we individually hoped to learn from the course which was great. There is only so much you can learn in three days, but I came away from the course with all the skills to get out on the rock and lead climb more confidently and safely. Would recommend this course for anyone getting into lead sport climbing. Great lunch too! Thanks Llew + Callum!

Both Dave and Lew accompanied our family of four rock climbing the single cone of the Remarkables. Lew stayed with myself and our younger kid and Dave accompanied my husband and our older child to do the more challenging accent. We all hiked to the base together and then separated with the guides setting pitches ahead for us to climb to the summit. The timing was perfect for us all to meet and have a quick snack at the summit before ab sailing down together. We are a fairly fit family, after having done several moderately challenging hikes across New Zealand and our kids had relatively limited rockclimbing experience, my husband and I essentially none. This day trip was the real deal. We were hanging off rock faces with the wind whistling past us. It was challenging however at no point did any of us feel that we were in any danger. Lew and Dave were calm, patient and we all felt completely safe in their hands under their guidance. They were also really nice guys to spend a day with. I would highly recommend this adventure. Nothing but great things to say about Wanaka Rock Climbing. I brought my group of student travelers out for an intro day on the rocks and it was absolutely fantastic! The team is clear, thorough, professional and quite hilarious as well. Shout out to Lu, Dave, Alex and Frankie... you guys are the best!

Had an awesome half day out with Dave. I've only been climbing for a couple months indoor and my wife had only climbed once outdoor, this was a perfect introduction to outdoor climbing. You feel 100% comfortable all the time and learn a lot. If we had more time definitely would have done a full day and hope to do a course in the future. If you have some spare time in Wanaka I would definitely recommend doing this as another activity!

Weather put our plans to head into the alpine on hold but Llew did an amazing job adjusting and finding fun and challenging routes in better conditions. We ended up spending the day at Hospital Flats checking out some classics (sport & trad) and finishing off with a cruisey multi-pitch. Would definitely recommend WANAKA ROCK CLIMBING to experienced climbers looking to see local classics or head up on more ambitious objectives.

I can highly recommend these guys! My husband and I spent an awesome day out with Llewellyn climbing the Grand Travers of The Remarkables. He is really professional and reliable guide with deep knowledge and huge experience. He did his best that we could enjoy the climb and he told us lots of information about NZ mountains as well. We would definitely go for another climbing trip with him.

I can't say enough good things about these guys. Their guides are not only well trained and experienced, they also truly care about your experience and will go the extra mile to make sure you are getting something valuable out of their courses and will walk away as a better, more experienced climber. My girlfriend and I signed up for two different courses (Level 1 & 2 Development Courses), and Llewellyn was able to arrange the overall schedule so that we would train different techniques and skills while always climbing together. On top of that, my partner had badly injured her left hand just two days before we started the course. I didn't even think she' d be able to climb at all, but Llewellyn made sure she could learn how to lead climb on routes that were more manageable given the circumstances. Not only did she end up climbing and improving her overall skill set, but had a ton of fun while doing it. And so did I! Highly Recommended.
