Stop: 4 hours - Admission included
Get beyond the farm gate of a real working high country farm. Unlike any farm tour anywhere in NZ because we have exclusive access, we travel private backroads high into the mountains (1000m) for jaw-dropping views of Lake Wanaka. Enjoy easy alpine nature walks, see herds of Red Deer grazing freely in the mountains. Hear fascinating stories told by your real kiwi guide. Relax with freshly brewed coffee and tasty treats at our very own alpine cafe. This will be one of the most authentic experiences you'll take in NZ

Unique NZ backcountry
Apr 2021 • Family
Fantastic afternoon exploring Wanaka’s backcountry, expertly guided by Mark. Spectacular views and geography, 4WD fun, interesting historical relics, magic light at sunset and plenty of wildlife. Perfect entertainment for all - our 10 year loved the 4WD aspect and the grandparents were delighted by this unique opportunity to visit such rarely seen high-country. An encounter with a wild stag was a very memorable moment. Definitely keen to do another trip with Ridgeline Adventures. Thanks to Mark and his team for an awesome afternoon.

We were SO lucky to see that huge wild stag yesterday. An incredible sight to get so close to it. Like I said we never know what we're going to see when we get way out the back of West Wanaka Station. Always unique and totally authentic. So pleased you all enjoyed your Wild Hills Safari with us.

Make the Journey
Apr 2021
The conditions were changeable, but the driver George ensured we got the best views possible and he always slowed down or stopped to let us take photos. We saw a huge amount of red deer, that was a great sight.
George was very informative about farming and the area, amongst other things so that made the trip more interesting and his cup of tea and coffee , with cake, at the top was very welcome.
This would be fun event to do again on motorbike, apparently they have special family bikes.!
Great trip even on a cloudy, slightly damp day.
Thanks George.

4wd station trip
This is an amazing trip. Want to see Wanaka from places even the locals can’t visit. Then go with Mark on a Ridgeline tour.
The views from the “alpine cafe” are spectacular. Best in the whole area
Learn about the farming, pest eradication program , history and more.
Best tour we have been on!!!
Thanks Mark and your team.

Thanks so much for your generous praise for our Wild Hills Safari. We are privileged to have exclusive access to this incredible High Country Station. We're all about giving back to our community and environment so it's great to know you enjoyed learning about our pest eradication programme too. Thanks again for giving us your time. We really appreciate it.

Spectacular and memorable trip
Feb 2021 • Friends
A wonderful trip up a high country station with a spectacular view of Lake Wanaka without having to do a painful hike. Hearing about the fascinating history of the region was a big bonus. Highly recommend to kiwis and to international travelers!

Don't just consider it - do it!
Jan 2021
This surpassed all expectations! We had a challenging group with 3 over 80 and multiple retired farmers and locals. Our marvellous guide George was totally up to the task, knowledgeable, helpful, patient and engaging. The tour was jaw dropping (even for the locals!) and George ensured that any walks were appropriate for the fitness levels of the group.
I'd recommend this for anyone looking for an experience away from the standard tourist stuff - professional, well run and interesting.

When we impress locals we know we're on the right track. Thank you so much for your support in these challenging times. We love what we do, where we go and most of all sharing the solitude, scenery, and silence of Wanaka's high country. Your support means everything to us.

Views for days!
Nov 2020
This was a brilliant trip, loved feeding the sheep and really enjoyed the historical site visit too. The views were spectacular and our guide, Neil, was knowledgeable and a capable driver. The vehicle was comfortable and spacious.
This is a wonderful way to see Wanaka from a perspective not available to all as it is a privately owned and working farm. Highly recommended.

The best trip I had in New Zealand
Feb 2020
I took the Wild Hill 4WD Scenic Farm Safari during a visit to Wanaka towards the end of February 2020. It was a fantastic experience and the most memorable trip of my 5 weeks in NZ. The scenery and the views were breathtaking by any standards and there were was plenty opportunities to take brilliant photos. The trip across the farm was also very interesting. I was able to see'real' sheep shearing, not just the demonstrations that are available elsewhere. Mark was a very knowledgeable guide and very pleasant company. If you visit Wanaka and want to see off-road New Zealand do not miss this experience. It is a long way from UK but I hope to be back.

Fantastic Half Day
Feb 2020
Thanks to our guide, George Scott, a retired farmer and nature activist, we learned and experienced a super introduction to farming in New Zealand. His research of West Wanaka Station was exhaustive and combined with his actual experience, no questions went unanswered. The sights were amazing. Wanaka is a must visit and this safari is a must do for any trip to the South Island.

A nature activist! We love that....might put that on George's business card.... We are very much a team of nature activists here in Wanaka, we love sharing our very unique environment with wonderful people just like you!! Thank you for your review.

Top 10 highlight of New Zealand visit
Feb 2020
Tour guide George Scott prepared us for and took us on an exciting visit to West Wanaka Station. Learning about the sheep/cattle/deer farm was interesting and educational. We watched sheep shearing and fed a few sheep. Geological info added by another tour guide added to our appreciation. The 4WD trip to the top of the farm was both hair-raising and safe. The views are breathtaking! Coffee, tea and biscuits served at the top only added to the occasion. We would highly recommend adding Wanaka and Ridgeline Tours to your itinerary.

Stunning scenery, moreish snacks, interesting history & knowledgeable guides with superb 4WD skills!
Jan 2020
Finished my uphill MTBing early & wanted an activity to fill the afternoon. VERY helpful & knowledgeable ladies at iSite Wanaka recommended this tour. Despite being a little sceptical (am a NZer so am a bit blase about farm animals) whether or not I'd enjoy this, I had a fabulous time! The highlights were definitely the river valley & lake vistas, learning a little about the workings & history of West Wanaka Station & ? Homestead Bay from George & experiencing my first ever serious 4WD. P.S Mark, you still owe me $10 for my gate opening services! :-)

We get this reaction from all NZ'ers who come out with us. It is SO much more than a farm tour, infact I'm inclined to leave the words "farm tour" out of our marketing material as it may put people off. Yes it is a farm tour but it is unlike any farm tour you can think of. Fun alpine backroads leading to jaw-dropping scenery and best of all you are the only ones there. I could go on ......but I will refrain. Thank you so much for your support and I have the $10 here for you!!
