About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- smithrenae7150 contributionsAmazing!!!!We did the Level 1 climb as a family of four (kids 13 & 11) and absolutely loved it! We all would have upgraded to the Level 2 climb but our youngest was under the minimum weight. I’m not a fan of heights but didn’t have any issues as you’re so busy concentrating on what you’re doing you don’t really think about the height. Plus we all felt completely safe with the harness etc. We would definitely do this again and cannot recommend this highly enough! Thanks for an amazing adventure!Written 8 October 2024
- jdwraine0 contributionsEpic must doThe guides where amazing. Me and my mates are hard to put up with at the best of times... let alone hanging off the side of a mountain but they loved every moment of it. The experience and views where mind blowing but the guides made it 100 times better. Oh and the lunch was amazing. No real skill needed just a can do attitude.Written 19 September 2024
- Briannamayo220 contributionsAmazing Experience on level 3!Great experience! Personally I have experience in rock climbing but wouldn’t class myself as overly fit. Two harder sections on level 3 that require a bit of upper body strength. Depending on the wind you can get a little wet behind the water fall so bring a raincoat. Amazing views throughout the entire climb. A few opportunities for small rests along the way. Helicopter was short and sweet. I’d recommend speaking up if you get motion sickness for a smoother ride. 100% recommend level 3 for anyone who loves a good climb and a unique outdoor experience.Written 4 September 2024
- 223ange0 contributionsAn amazing adventure!I would highly recommend doing this. It was so much fun. The guides are super supportive and add charm to the experience!Written 2 September 2024
- jkirk27_130 contributionsAwesome experience in Wanaka. We had an amazing time at Wildwire Wanaka. The climbing was sensational, the views were first class and the guides were lovely and helpful. If you want an exhilarating experience on your trip to New Zealand, I would highly recommend Wildwire.Written 31 August 2024
- kirrabeachfan0 contributionsMust do in WanakaFantastic experience with top guides. Loved Level one so much we carried on and did Level 2. Great safety instructions and guide Touqui was calm, knowledgeable and great company!Written 13 August 2024
- gaillO8471SS0 contributionsOnce in a lifetime climbThis was an amazing, heart pounding, exhausting adventure, not for the faint of heart. We did level 3, an all day climb 1400ft up. It is the same tour for all 3 levels, they just stop at different points. Our main guide was Yasmin, cool as a cucumber, very encouraging and supportive. Toward the end I started having doubts about being able to finish. Yasmin, inspired us to keep going. Unlike our crazy(awesome) guide, I can't imagine doing this climb more than once. Knowing a helicopter takes you down off the mountain was very helpful. Thank you to farmer Charlie, and owner Matt, for making this climb possible. Think our other guide, equally cool dude, was Dave(?) They deserve a HUGE raise!!Written 3 June 2024
- Rhyolite900 contributionsThe most incredible day outThis is an absolutely amazing experience. The staff are brilliant, the gear is second to none and the overall activity has been thought out with every rung you climb. The scenery is out of this world, even for Otago, which is no small feat. Everything you turn around, you discover something new to look out over. We went up to level 2 with a group of 4 others and two guides and then proceeded with one of the guides up the final section to the top of level 3. Level 3 is much more of a challenge than the other 2 but if you're up for it, it is by far the most spectacular and you really feel like you have achieved something by the time you get to the top. I proposed to my partner up there which was amazing and our very patient guide Tanguy took a heap of pictures. The helicopter ride down was short but the perfect way to top off one of the best days of our lives. Thanks a ton team!Written 1 June 2024
- Stay444365649510 contributionsSo much funWhat a blast. Completely new to climbing but received excellent and reassuring instruction before heading up the Level 1 Waterfall Climb. Lovely Yasmin guided us up and before I knew it I was hanging hands free off a bridge! I’m a Wanaka local and have been non stop recommending Wild Wire to all my friends. Will be back to give Level 2 a go. Thanks guysWritten 3 May 2024
- blacks0x0 contributionsKate and JulesThank you for a fantastic day, what a challenge Jules and I loved it! Great guides, super professional and friendly and very encouraging when and if needed.Written 28 April 2024
- almgregory13040 contributionsBreathtakingIncredible family adventure. This activity was lead by professional climbers who always had our safety first. The view, the challenge, even the food was just next level. It was the highlight of our entire holiday.Written 28 April 2024
- Tim1410 contributionsOverall Enjoyable and FunThe company is conservative in terms of safety and difficulty levels, which is fine. Safety is always good, so no problems there. We (a jelly filled 53yo and 47yo spouse) did the Level 3 Full and found it much easier than advertised. heard a 72yo did the full the previous day, so that was a motivation. Level 1-2 is pretty easy, and Level 3 is very doable for a moderately fit person. The guides pace the climb well where it will not seem like you are climbing for a long time. There were appropriate breaks for recovery, easy clip in rests whenever you want. There was no pressure to speed up to hit a time target or to finish. I was surprised how quickly we finished level 2, it goes by quickly. Lunch is a hearty granola bar thingy wedge and a sandwich, which I found tasty or I was just really hungry given our hotel breakfast comprised of runny scrambled eggs. The helo ride down, which I presume contributes greatly to the level 3 cost, was rather uneventful, though. Not sure that was worth the cost benefit. Would have been nice to do some sort of flight race track rather than just the very short A to B pickup-dropoff, but oh well.Written 22 April 2024
- Happiness149020872810 contributionsA must do activity!!A unique experience for the first timers. Sarah, our young, friendly, enthusiastic & beautiful Via Ferrata guide was very caring. Instructions were kept simple and easy to understand. Everyone from 11 years old to 55 years old felt safe & comfortable from beginning till the end. Once you get to the top it simply adds to the beauty of this activity. We had a really fantastic time and the unique experience was really worth - great value for money. Thanks again to the WWW team for making this a memorable experience. XxWritten 19 April 2024
- kmah7070 contributionsLoved it!We had an amazing time! The whole team was great from our first inquiry email right until the end of our climb. Our guide, Matt, was fabulous. Definitely would recommend!Written 17 April 2024
- jeffski20170 contributionsOne of the Best New Zealand MemoriesSimply incredible. Our guide, Brendan, was excellent and ensured were safe and successful. Great guy. If you have never done a Via Ferrata, this is a good one to being with. It's moderately challenging (due one level more than you think you can), but incredibly beautiful--one of the most beautiful Via Ferratas I have done. If you have done Via Ferrata, it is absolutely, positively worth doing. Wildwire is the only active Via Ferrata in New Zealand, so that is cool. But mostly, it's beautiful and unique (ascending up a waterfall) with some solid wire and suspension bridges and a few challenging sections.Written 6 April 2024

What a great way to spend the day. Our guide Connie was soooo good, she took her time explaining how to use the equipment and the safety aspects as well, at this point I was nervous about the climb both from the height perspective and my own fitness and abilities to do the climb. Connie was great throughout , explaining each step without making me more nervous, giving us time to look out at the amazing country we are privileged enough to call home and time to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall , even a swim ( well a quick submerge into the pool at the waterfall) . We were on such a high after achieving this in such a beautiful place in NZ. Oh and it was very doable even for me. Thanks the the team at Wildwire and especially to Connie.

Had always wanted to try VF, thanks to Wild Wire for the Bucket List ✔
3 of us came down from Fox Glacier to try out the Wild Thing product. An amazing climb up the cliffs along side the waterfall was everything we needed to get the adrenaline pumping. Every corner presented another steep face to climb or dizzying bridge to cross.. we loved every minute.
If the climb itself wasn't enough our awesome guides really made the trip a memorable one. Yasmin led us the whole way up, spouting off her limitless list of 'fun facts' that kept us all entertained... and to top it off she even whipped out a sweet snack platter at the top! Delish.
Cheers to Max for the driving, local interp and professional yet light hearted safety briefings. These two made our day all the more memorable!
Thanks to the Team at Wild Wire for getting us our dose of gnarr. Will be talking about this with anyone who'll listen for quite some time :)

Absolutely fantastic experience
My wife and I , along with our teenage son had a fantastic and challenging day climbing up Twin Falls. We were joined by 2 young woman from Auckland
The professional and energetic guides , gave us a full safely briefing and training , before we started the climb.
First the easier levels ,followed by the tougher more challenging levels
Our Guide was constantly encouraging and checking up on us , and giving advise as to how best to traverse the more difficult parts
Overall a brilliant experience and well worth the money spent
Thanks Wildwire Wanaka

A quote I'll always remember is "learn to live your life in pursuit of happiness rather than material goods". Experiencing Wild Wire was exactly that! Getting up and personal with mother nature is something I've been craving for a long time. Me and my friends completed the 'Wild Thing' climb and I'd do it a million times over. My husband is afraid of heights but our guide Laurel made everyone feel so comfortable that by the end of the climb he said he could've even completed the 'Lord of the rungs' 450m climb... next time!

Had an amazing time at Wildwire this morning. Our guides Kate and Connie did an excellent job of balancing (pun intended) fun, safety, excitement and conversation. I would definitely do this activity again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting (or local) to Wanaka.

My husband and I have wanted to do Wildwire for years, it was fantastic to finally get around to trying it! It was also great timing to support a local tourism operator post level 4 lockdown. Our guide Owen was very friendly and kept a watchful eye over all of us to make sure we were doing ok. Groups are kept small with around one guide per five guests. At the beginning there is a practice area to learn how to use the equipment, this definitely helped give me more confidence! I was a little scared beforehand, I'm not great with heights and I was worried about the three wire bridge, but honestly it was fine! Now I can't believe I put off doing Wildwire for so long! It was the most fun I've had in ages, the views were spectacular and I felt super safe the whole time. You have to give it a go!!

My friend and I, both 60 years old and in decent shape, opted for the second level option. Our guides were professional and friendly, and the experience was a highlight of our eight months stay in New Zealand. The course offerered unparalled views, was physical but not overly challenging, and we felt extremely safe and secure the entire time. We were glad we selected the second level option, because we felt the first level would have been too short for us and the third level was just a little too expensive for us.

This has been one of the best adventures I have done in New Zealand yet! It was wild getting to climb up the side of a waterfall. How many people get to say that? The guide team was so knowledgeable and the entire experience felt so safe. It was so empowering and daring to go on this adventure. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in climbing to new heights. Even though we weren't able to go all the way to the top due to the weather, I am so happy and grateful for the experience. It was magical and will forever be a special memory as I proposed to my boyfriend near/under the waterfall. Thank you to the amazing team who made it all possible!

Such an epic adventure to celebrate my best mates 40th birthday! Was scarier, more exciting and more challenging than I thought which I loved! We were both so exhilarated to reach the top, haven't felt so alive in ages. 10/10 Maddy our guide was really great, could see my mate was nervous on the bridges so Maddy walked backwards in front of her and talked to her to keep her mind off the height. Very impressed!

My son and I traveled to south island for a quick trip filled with plenty of adrenaline-fueled touristy activities (hanggliding, bungy, canyoning, zipline), and this was the best! Unlike some of the other activities that we did, with via ferrata you are actively involved (as opposed to just being along for the ride). We came here with zero climbing experience and felt that this climb (Level 3) was challenging at times, but not too difficult for someone who is fairly active.
Safety is of course important, and these guys have it dialed in. At no time did I feel unsafe, even hundreds of feet in the air. There are plenty of safety measures (and safety backups) in place. I think wildwire specifically, and New Zealand in general, is really good when it comes to safety regulations.
Having done a few other group activities during the trip, I can tell you a huge difference maker is the client to guide ratio. In a typical group activity with say a dozen or so other people, you will oftentimes need to wait for all 12 people to accomplish a particular endeavor before moving on to the next one; unfortunately, this sometimes makes what should be an exciting activity... boring. With wildwire, the client to guide ratio is 4:1 for level 2, and 2:1 for level 3 and the guides will match you up with clients who have similar skill levels so you all go at the same pace. No waiting around and makes for a stress-free climb!
We enjoyed everything about the day - friendly and knowledgeable instructors, incredible views, beautiful and refreshing waterfall, tasty lunch, and the helicopter finish.
Highly recommend!

So this looks amazing. Was intending on doing the nevis swing but this looks way better value and more fun. Is it possible to just pay for the wildfire climb without doing the first beginner section and are there any sites like bookme that do discount codes or anything so I can try afford to bring my other half with me?
Cheers
Written 9 September 2018
You do the beginner section which leads on to the intermediate section. But it is challenging and fun, and at least prepares you as you climb higher. I don't know of any discounts, but stretch to take both of you. Really a great experience
Written 15 September 2018
We are a group of 6 with varying level of fitness. How is the pacing like for the entire climb, are there breathers that the weaker ones amongst us can take?
Written 2 July 2018
Yes, there are ample spots for breathers. Although I don't know your comparative levels of fitness, if you have some ability and confidence there will be no problems. You'll probably want to stop for several photos, too. There are also a couple spots (natural ledges) where it's easy to catch a breather and/or have a snack. The guides are superb and helpful. Their objective is to have you safely enjoy this experience. If you're concerned about fitness, I would not attempt the longest climb, or, you could divide your group by choosing among the different climbs.
Best of luck and enjoy.
