Great overall experience for first time visitors!well organized and it's a beautiful area to catch great pictures of what Hawaii has to offer.
Great place to visit and to enjoy the sun & water
If you are the first time visitor, I would recommend sign up for the early AM tour and have them pick you up in some of selected spots in the Waikiki area. If you drive there by yourself without preparation, the rental fee for the equipment will be more expensive than then the entire trip if you go with the tour (the tour includes transportation, equipment rental...etc). This tour did not includes the entrance fee of 7 ~ 8 dollars.
Overrated, overcrowded. Better beaches 7 minutes up the road
I was wildly disappointed in this place. Way too crowded, was like being at Coney Island, there are just as good if not better beaches just a few minutes drive.. and they are FREE... charging and making me sit thru a video was the first clue.
Then there is a $ charge that ride the jittney down to the beach. Or else it’s a hike.. and that’s just down..
if you want to go here.. plan on spending big bucks
And putting up with an over crowded over rated beach

Uber and rent gear to save money!
The bay is gorgeous. The pick up and drop off was nice. Rental was great. If you rent your own snorkeling gear and Uber over can save more money. We still had to pay entrance fee. But this is an amazing snorkeling site to go and we highly recommend it! So many beautiful fish to see!
You don’t really need this “ tour”
This is just a pick up and drop off service, that is it! If you have 2 or more people that would be more economic to take Uber or rent a car. Don’t book this!
Busy Hanauma Bay
Having heard a lot about Hanauma Bay the visit was at the top of our 'to do' list and so we booked a half day trip with Hawaiian Ocean Promotions (HOP). HOP did an excellent job of organising the visit and the staff could not have been more helpful, full credit to them.
However, on arrival the bay at around 09:30 the place was already extremely busy and you have little option but to go with the flow of people. There is a $7.50 entrance fee on top of the HOP price and another $2.50 for a day pass on the 'trolley' to get up and down from the beach. If you are young and fit you can easily walk the long down hill trek to the beach and the walk back up again at the end of the day, but, if you are past your prime or have young children it makes a lot of sense to use the trolley. Even more so at this time of year when the Hawaiian islands are very hot and humid.
The bay itself is impressive, an ancient volcanic crater with palm fringed golden sand beaches.
Snorkelling was okay, but with the amount of people present it wasn't easy, plus the sand was kicked up into clouds hiding many of the fish purported to be there. Yes there are fish to be seen, some of them stunningly colourful, but having just come from the 'Big Island' the numbers and colours of the fish at Hanauma did not match up to something like Keauhou Bay (where Captain Cook was killed).
I've still given the tour 4 out of 5, HOP were great and the bay is impressive, I would certainly recommend a visit, just go very early in the morning and be one of the first on the beaches so you can better enjoy the wonders beneath the waves.
it was a nice place but no sheds for people who d like to spend more time in the bay. its for comfort and pleasure.
Sw Grand Mound,
This service is so much nicer than driving and hoping they will let you in. They picked us up at our hotel, fitted us with equipment, explained the day and delivered us to the site with all the equipment we needed.
Super friendly staff and efficient. All for a great price. I'll do it next time too!
HOP was really organized. We thought this was a great value. From hotel to the HOP office for gear & Tips. then 10 minutes to Hanauma Bay. Pickup time from Hanauma Bay was prompt- same deal on the way back. We felt our time was valued. We would do this Hanauma Bay trip again.
Good experience, friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced. You get your snorkel gear and are dropped off to explore on your own.
Was a favorite!
This was one of the things we were most looking forward to on our vacation. We were picked up from our resort on time and brought to the office for our gear and to be taken to the Bay. Everyone was very friendly. We got to choose what time we would like to be picked up from the Bay and were picked up right on time. The whole experience was seamless. We saw so many colorful fish! This is definitely a must when visiting Oahu. Thank you!
It’s not a tour. The company just rents equipment and it is on you to figure out the rest. We got snorkeling equipment and several pieces were broke or damaged. They’ll tell you there’s no parking and it’s best to take their shuttle for an extra cost both ways but parking is $1 and there’s plenty of it.
This is NOT a "tour" and does NOT include a lesson
I should have read the description more carefully before booking, but I saw "Hanauma Bay Snorkeling Adventure Half-Day Tour" and I took the word "tour" literally. Wrong! What we got was transportation to Hanauma Bay and snorkeling equipment rental. There was no lesson or instruction of any kind, and there was no tour or tour guide. We got dropped off at the gate and told what time we would be picked up. Not sure how this can be considered a "tour." I know my granddaughters (ages 14 & 13) expected a snorkeling lesson and then a tour of the reef before being set loose to explore on their own. My bad. I should have checked into this more thoroughly. Very disappointing.
Fit for beginners
Great place to snorkel if you're a beginner. The water is calm and protected by the reef. You could venture out further if you're adventurous. Lots of different fishes to see.
Hanauma Bay was an amazing experience. I've never seen so many colorful fish this close before in the wild. They are very tolerant of the many snorkelers there. H.O.P. was great to work with. Easy pick up from Waikiki, then a stop at their shop for instruction. They even had vision correction masks available. After we got our equipment we were dropped off at the Bay for an amazing few hours. Don't forget your park fees!
