Quad bike experience with Cam 10:30am 16th April. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
We had a fantastic experience with our guides Cam and Dylan. The group was broken up into two groups. My wife and I were in the first group with Cam. He was so good as a guide. Very patient, knowledgeable and made sure we balanced fun and safety. Highly recommend the experience. The rainforest ride was worth it alone.

      Must do experience
On March 20th, Tom and Anne from Australia took the quad bike tour with Rosco. What a blast! We drove over incredible places, rocks, gravel, glacial rivers and into the rainforest. It was a fabulous adventure, the highlight of our New Zealand trip. The provided photos were exceptional. The family can hardly believe what we did. We highly recommend this activity. It was so much fun! Thanks so much Rosco! Not bad for a couple in their mid seventies.

YOU MUST DO THIS AWESOME EXPERIENCE
WOW WOW WOW. Despite the freezing cold and rain, we had an absolute ball. Expertly guided by the amazing Tayla, we jumped on the quads ( after some safety instructions), rode through rain drenched/water logged rain forest ( lots of water and mud, and I mean LOTS) onto the river bed for an exhilarating couple of hours riding through the water channels, crossing rocky banks, up banks and downnnnnn banks. Wohoo ! My partner and I ride motobikes at home and thought this experience would be tame, but it was fantastic. Despite nearly frozen fingers, we loved every minute of it and looking back are glad it WAS wet as the experience wouldnt have been as much fun in perfect sunny weather. We didnt get to see the glacier as the weather was so overcast, but had so much fun anyway. Tayla took photos of everyone which we have just downloaded. We highly recommend this tour and the crew. Thanks to everyone for a 10/10 experience, value & service.

Great guide and beautiful, quiet area.
This was one of my favorite activities in Franz Josef. Our guide, Pickles, was extremely relaxed and competent. He was filled with enthusiasm and appreciation for nature. The kayaks and gear were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the lake, its lore and the birds.

      Awesome fun!
Really fun couple of hours quad biking, great instructors that showed us the ropes before heading out into the forest and riverbed. Had a double bike with our teenager on the back and a single - bikes are easy to drive if you’re a beginner. Lots of mud and water action along with the rocky river crossings - we were so lucky to have clear skies and sunshine to enjoy magic views of the mountains.

      Great family kayaking adventure
This was the last sunset tour for the season and as our first guided activity in New Zealand we weren’t sure what to expect. This was an easy kayak and suitable for novices. We were all in double kayaks and the afternoon we went the lake was very calm and flat. In total about 7 km. Great commentary, experienced guides. Rug up, it was a bit chilly and make sure you have repellant for the sandflies.

      Beautiful tour; exceptional guide!
Outstanding views, knowledgeable tour guide, and charming company! Our guide, "Pickles," did his best to inform, inspire, and delight us the entire time. He sure helped mend our disappointment when inclement weather prevented our Heli-hike to the glacier. Highly recommend this company!

      Sooo much fun!
Awesome fun guides with a great sense of humour! Riding through native bush & mud then on the riverbed over rocks, down hills & through water with the glacier in the background was amazing! Loved it. All wet weather gear, boots & gloves provided ❤️

      Very cool + fun experience
So much fun. Good that full wet-weather gear (jacket, pants, shoes) + sunglasses + helmet was provided to use for the tour. We originally booked for a 2-person buggy but were allowed to change to a 2-person quadbike before starting at no additional cost. The training and practice time was necessary and helpful, and the tour itself was so much fun. We got to go through the rainforest then onto the pebbles, through shallow waters, with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. The photos they take are great and included with the booking! Very friendly, cheerful and encouraging tour guide. The perfect amount of exhilaration while still feeling in safe hands.

Relaxing lake kayaking and hiking experience
We were a small group of 3. The kayak and other equipment were well maintained. The lake was beautiful and the hike was nice - our guide Laura is very knowledgeable and could explain everything 😁 Bonus: we saw three Keas!

Must-do in Franz Josef - with free pictures!
Great quad tour. The bikes are Can-Am, relatively new and not too beaten up. The guide, Roscoe, was excellent, the tour is about 2 hours and you get to drive through everything from streams to jungle paths, and even get some great instagram photos for free. The experience was well organized, I ride a lot of motorcycles but this tour is great for everyone with experience or without. I rode with a girl from Germany who had never been on a quad or motorcycle before and she had a great time. Definitely a good way to round out your Franz Josef experience, as well as a landing on the glacier (done by the same company) which was surprisingly inexpensive. I would certainly do this again when I get back to the area.

      A couple of fun hours.
A well organised, fun and safe trip. Our guide Roscoe made it that way with his humour, love of his job and attentiveness. Travelling river beds and rain forest trails with mud, rocks and puddles was quite beautiful. We were always advised of the best way to do things and he took care of all the photography. A genuinely great few hours with a great guy.

      Active and interesting afternoon
Our guide, Laura, was very friendly and helpful in getting us set up with our kayaks and sharing interesting facts about the area and nature reserve / sanctuary. We were a small group and the weather was a bit choppy at first, but thoroughly enjoyable with all the equipment provided. Would highly recommend.

Dale took my husband and I out at short notice, he has so much knowledge about the surrounding area and easy to chat with and ask questions of.
He made plenty of effort to show us the area and even stopped occasionally at look closer for the trout and eels swimming below us. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon on the lake in a very comfortable boat.
Highly recommend I got some awesome photos

Loved this experience! Surrounded by the natural raw beauty of Lake Mapourika. Stunning! Incredible history to be learnt about the jurassic forest area. The tranquility of moving through the calm still waters is breathtaking and truly unwinding!
The guides are just awesome and we loved how they made it both fun, safe and informative! Highly recommended!! Favourite part was winding up through the flax lined water maze at the top of the lake!

In spite of the rain we really enjoyed the leisurely boat trip and the rain forest walk. Dale was a great guide, full of information about the lake, the forest and the glaciers. We certainly learnt a lot. The hot drink following the forest walk was most welcome.
We would recommend this adventure to everyone.
Thank you Dale, a great 2 hours.

Apart from the subject material of the natural environment.
Dale our guide just brought the whole trip together with his knowledge and obvious feelings for his subject.
The way he manages to make this feel like it is his first week on the job makes it a pleasure to listen to him.
What I mean by that is he has done so many trips it would be easy to start to feel and sound "old hat to him" but you certainly don't get that impression.

Spectacular scenery to be had on this leisure cruise. Myself and a fellow passenger booked this tour with the additional walk while on a group tour. It turned out we were the only two going and had the boat to ourselves and it felt like a private tour.
I highly recommend doing the additional walk. It's, a small addition in cost but it's just magical.

When the lake is still, it's like a mirror reflecting the mountains and forest. The photos I took are spectacular and some actually look fake but they are real!! There's a stairway on the front of the boat that you can walk out on to take photos of the views without obstruction.
Rosie our guide was just lovely and she took us out on the lake and told us about the points where she stopped and pointed out birds on the way.
The boat is parked up on a small peninsula where you go for the walk. You don't need to be a hiker to do the walk but you do need to be able bodied.
They offer walking poles if anyone wants to take one. We did and they were handy.

The walk is on a woodland path through what can only be described as an enchanted forest walk.
It feels like you could see a mythical creature through the trees at any moment. It's just a wonderful walk, you'll get to hear and see some native birds.
The woodland path has almost become part of the forest floor again over the years which gives a great illusion that you're wandering through and there's some steps that are patches of earth between tree roots, rocks, logs or man made with wooden offcuts from trees. You'll need to have some solid footwear like good trainers or walking boots. The steps can vary in height and depth but mostly it's a forest path and there's some guide ropes in one or two places that you can hang on to.

I got some incredible and spectacular scenic pictures and loved the forest walk.
Highly recommend this company with their friendly staff and great trips.

The Crew at Franz Josef Wilderness Tours know how to put on a great trip!

The crew were great, we were running late/ just on time and the team were super accommodating of us. Our Guide Nick was friendly and knowledgeable. He shared information about Aotearoa New Zealand’s history and wildlife.

Lake Mapkurika and it’s surroundings were incredible with stunning views everywhere you looked and bird life that you will struggle to find anywhere else.

Thanks to Nick and the team for the great day and the sunshine 😊

Hello! Thanks for your excellent review, glad to hear you enjoyed your afternoon with us. We're more than happy to accommodate people that are trying to fit it ALL in when they're here in Franz! From my recollection you were straight from the helicopter and out to the lake, how unique to see the glaciers and mountains from such different perspectives in 1 day! All the best with the rest of your trip. Cheers Bronwyn

Was surprise at how great this trip was. We were expecting it to be good but came away very impressed. We were collected in Franz Joseph in the mini bus provided and driven the short distance to the adjoining lake and boat. We had a very relaxing afternoon being taken gently around the lake surrounded by fabulous views. Lots of information on well basically everything from the trees, bird life, history, geography, Maori stories etc., all given by our knowledgeable guide and boat captain who was brilliant. All this together made the trip very memorable and interesting .... even had a brew halfway round which was a lovely surprise. Well worth the money and do recommend

We had hoped to see a vista of the snow-capped mountains but, in true NZ fashion they were covered in clouds and we couldn't see a thing.
But, instead of being disappointed, we had the lovely Tom to ourselves and learnt a wealth of information about the lake, the nearby forests, the flora and fauna. Having worked previously for the Department of Conservation, Tom told us so many interesting facts about the lake and its surrounds. Honestly, we could have stayed out on the water for another couple of hours.
