- Wander501345373650 contributionsHahei ExplorerWhat a fantastic boat trip we had with our overseas visitors. This is an excellent tour and would highly recommend it. Our skipper was very friendly and informative on local knowledge and made us feel very comfortable with his boat skills in and out of caves! I would definitely do this again with other visitors. This is a great way to see the local surrounds from the water in an hour!Written 12 February 2024
- G1712OXchrisg0 contributionsA "must do" on North IslandIt's a fabulous way to see this stunning coastline close-up. Our guide was great and gave us lots of information on the history of the coastline and the marine conservation work that is taking place.Written 4 January 2024
- nicolacS6085SL0 contributionsFantastic boat tourMy daughter and I had a wonderful time with Ryan our skipper - covered a surprising length of coastline in an hour and even ventured into and through caves ; so much knowledge shared , we highly recommend this trip!!!Written 9 December 2023

- KimMckay0 contributionsAmazing beautiful experienceJust a must do activity in Hahei, cannot even explain how beautiful the coastline is. And the trip is made even better by the very experienced and knowledgeable Guide. Loved going into the caves and saw some huge Snapper.Written 8 December 2023
- cat80400 contributionsGreat tourCaptain Oscar did a great job of telling us the historical and geological significance of everything we visited. It was a beautiful tour, and the boat ride was super fun on top of that.Written 20 November 2023
- Carol F0 contributionsOutstandingOur family of 5 loved everything about this trip. The staff was so helpful to my husband who has difficulty walking, getting him on and off the boat with ease and even transferring him to our car. The water was beautiful, clear and calm on the 9am tour. The explanation of rock formations and trips into caves were beyond expectations. We as a family highly recommend.Written 13 November 2023
- Tripeer0 contributionsA great way to see the sights! We had a great morning touring the coastal highlights including Cathedral Cove. Our experience was a 10 Highly recommend this option if based in Hahei.Written 12 November 2023
- Szrapkogabi0 contributionsBest way to see Cathedral Cove - totally worth the moneyCathedral Cove is closed due to the risk of slips after the cyclon, so the only way to see it is via boat. Starting off from a beautiful sandy beach this ride so worth the money. The ride is actually 1 full hour no bs and blabla. There are plenty of Caves and rock formations and hidden coves that otherwise we wouldn't be able to see. Like the champagne Rock, and 2 of the biggest sea Caves in NZ. + the cathedral Cove is so untouched, like you'd never seen it before, as it is normally crowded with tourists even in the winter... We even saw sea lion sunbathing on a rock, so up close, I couldn't believe. Henry, our guide was awesome and enthusiastic and knowledgeable which is great. Staff is friendly. Highly recommended, a must when in Coromandel.Written 26 March 2023
- Z7494VBkaym0 contributions10/10 would recommendWe loved it. Friendly staff. Excellent commentary. After seeing the caves and the other scenery we actually felt that Cathedral Cove was a bit of a letdown. The highlight for us was definitely the cave with the blue water and fish.Written 2 January 2023
- zrcannon0 contributionsAbsolutely brilliantBest part of our trip. Yes it costs a little money but a really incredibly experience with amazing views and a great boat ride.Written 27 December 2022
- Frits H0 contributionsGreat trip with a rib.Very nice tour guide who showed us diverse caves from the boat. That can’t be seen from land. He also tell a lot about marine life and geology.Written 14 November 2022
- kat r0 contributionsReally enjoyable beautiful tourEnjoyed travelling through tunnels and learning the history of the area. The skipoer was informative and ensured everyone in the boat had a good view of what we were looking atWritten 10 October 2022
- bjscole0 contributionsGreat experience!Honestly I was on the fence about booking this, it seemed like unite a lot of money for a one hour experience. No regrets at all! It was perfect. The boat ride was just the right length. We saw sea caves, the Hahei blow hold, the Orua fault, Cathedral Cove, lots of fish in the marine reserve, and Ralfie the seal. We had our two young kids (aged 5 and 1), who both enjoyed it too. The boat was comfortable and only had us and one other family. Oscar, our guide, was also great- knowledgeable and friendly, happily responding to my questions, and not overbearing like some guides can be. Would definitely recommend.Written 26 September 2022
- gemmacU9104AE0 contributionsMorning winter trip the best. Seals scenery and silenceOliver was our skipper and he and his colleague made our trip fantastic. Changed the time the night before to suit better weather. Thanks! Oliver ensured not a splash of water reached us in the boat. Being winter it was cold so rug up and be prepared to get your feet wet as you enter and exit the boat but don’t let that stop you, this trip is nothing short of fantastic. Informative and fun and today, we had the place to ourselves. Just nature and us 4 as we explored the majesty and mystery of this coastline including some truly amazing caves. 9km2 area is marine reserve and the size of snapper we saw near cathedral cove were great! Thanks Oliver and team for taking us 4 out today. We all had a fabulous time. Well worth doing it anytime but especially out of summer/ tourist season and see the area without hundreds of others! I will leave a surprise but let me say the last cave is the best. Magical! Thanks Gemma and friends.Written 17 July 2022

Booked online the night before. Online booking was flawless and everything worked a treat. The spot to board the boat was easy (Hahei beach) to find and the guys were on time and well prepared.
The boat ride itself was great and an hour was a perfect amount of time for young kids and was reasonably priced. We had two children (7 and 4) and they coped with the ride perfectly even with a bit of swell and the crew were really great to the kids. We got to see all the sites (cathedral cove, caves, islands, marine reserve) that we wanted which was a huge bonus. Our pilot was a great guy, well spoken, and had fantastic knowledge of all the great spots around the coast. Would definitely recommend for others with younger families.

Hi Matthew, thanks for making the time to leave us such an epic review, it is so great to get end-to-end feedback like this about your whole experience. We love taking young families out and our skippers especially enjoy the excitement from the kids, it is awesome seeing their faces light up! We hope you can join us again sometime soon!

Cannot rate this highly enough. We were originally booked for yesterday - the weather was not good and the company immediately offered a full refund or to rebook.
We rebooked - and am so glad we did. A thrilling boat ride, with Michael our guide taking us into the little caves for spectacular views and up close to Cathedral Beach. He was very informative and the customer service from all the staff we met was excellent.

We chose to do the boat tour as the track to Cathedral Cove was closed due to recent weather events. It was the best decision! The tour guide was informative and we saw far more from the sea than we would have done on a walk into the Cove. Doing the tour in calm waters during the 3 hour window either side of high tide meant that we got to experience the Wai Ora Ana blowhole from the inside - a highly unusual sight.

One of the most beautiful areas of a stunning Coromandel Peninsula. Harry, our very knowledgeable young skipper entertained our boat with stories of both European and Maori history whilst also highlighting the stunning natural beauty of the cliffs, bays and the numerous islands. After previously visiting Cathedral Cove, a regular attraction for hikers, this was a highlight to see it from a totally different perspective.
Harry took us inside the reserve where he showed off his abilities as the "fish whisperer" attracting numerous snapper etc to the boat. Thanks Harry for a great day out with the family. Cheers, Murray

We were going to walk the Cathedral Cove walk but came across the advertising board at Hahei Beach for this tour and are so glad that we decided to do it. Booking online was easy, meeting spot was easy to find and the team were very friendly and informative.
We were taken to some spectacular scenery spots and Tim our driver was very knowledgeable on the area. We felt extremely safe at all times and would highly recommend this tour for any age group.

An excellent tour, we highly recommend it. Jess on the beach was excellent, showing great patience, understanding each time we called her for directions to the pick up point. Our skipper Tom was knowledgeable with a sense of humor and very professional. We got a close view of the caves and rock formations and even managed to reach out to the curious, friendly schools of snapper.

An excellent experience
My wife and I experienced the Cathedral Cove Boat tour operated by Hahei Explorer. It was a wonderful experience for both of us. The sea was reasonably calm, our skipper Ross informative and skillful.
What's more - there were no other passengers - which meant it was like a private charter for just the two of us.
We were treated to some incredible sights - and one can understand the true power of nature, and the delights it can bring.
We took a 9 am tour.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

We were met by Shane on the beach, he put the inflatable in the water, we boarded and away we went on what turned out to be an amazing trip Don and I were the only passengers so no problem with room. The weather was a bit gloomy but as he showed us Cathedral Cove the sun came out, it was magical the colour of the water, shore line rocks and of course the famous cave. We were shown so many wonderful islands and caves galore. The scenery was amazing, birds, fish, seals and the most amazing rock formations. Shane was extremely knowledgeable with the sealife, birds, rocks, caves and Maori history. The best one hour every spent, well worth every cent. A must do.

This was a last minute decision for us and it turned out to be the right one. We did a quick trip to Coromandel and the boat tour of Cathedral Cove allowed us to understand why people rave about this area. We saw things that we would have been unable to experience from land. The guide - Tom - was very capable, engaging and could answer all of our questions. Well worth it,.
