Our driver/tour guide was very knowledgeable and a wonderful story teller. He is a Maui local and lent a bit of history handed down in the oral tradition of the Hawaiian culture as well as being so funny we hardly knew we were on a 12 hr excursion.

Our guide and driver was Travis. Such a great guy. We were in expert hands as he knows the roads very well having grown up in Hana. All the turns and bridges were handled safely and Travis regaled us with stories and history of the area and kept us entertained. He’s so personable and we all became ohana (family) as we drove along.
It was a long day but so much fun. Plenty of stops along the way including Aunt Sandy’s to buy her delicious banana bread and lunch at Aunt Virgie’s. The black sand beach was beautiful. The waves amazing! We saw a rainbow on the way home. Perfect ending to a wonderful day. The rain forest is beautiful and this tour will is now one of my favorite memories. Mahalo Travis!

The tour was a great alternative to driving ourselves. Several beautiful stops along the way—Ke’anae Landing, Wai’ānapanapa State Park with its black sand beach, and pools with waterfalls for swimming, along with great cultural and natural details provided by our guide, Zack. We enjoyed the botanical garden for light breakfast, and the box lunch was freshly made and tasty. We could have driven ourselves, but we wanted to all have a relaxing day without one of us needing to concentrate on driving along the one-lane, windy segments.

I read about Valley Isle Excursions from some travel blogs and decided to do a Road to Hana Tour with them. The online process was fast and they were very responsive to my questions. They also gave regular updates as our tour was nearing. Our guide and driver was Zach. They picked us up promptly in front of our condo. The van was comfortable and cold. They provided cold water throughout the day. Breakfast at the Plantation was simple and light to prevent motion sickness - fruits, muffin, coffee and juice. Lunch was either a sandwich or a salad. There were several stops in the tour with ample time for pictures and to look around. Be sure to buy several banana bread from Aunt Sandy's. They are really delicious esp. when warm. Special shout out to Zach because he altered our schedule for us to be able to buy the bread since the banana bread was still baking and won't be out for at least 45 minutes. Zach is very knowledgeable about Maui and Hana that he was able to talk about them throughout our journey. He was also a good driver, no one had motion sickness despite the winding and narrow roads. The Black Sand Beach and the Waterfall swim were the highlights for us. I highly recommend The Road to Hana and Valley Isle Excursion.

Just wanted to thank Travis (Ikaika) for an excellent tour. I’ve done the Road to Hana before on our own and this was WAY better. Travis immediately knew everyone’s name on our tour which made it so personable and enjoyable. It was entertaining and interesting the entire time, not one dull moment. Since he is a local who grew up in Hana, you get the benefit of his knowledge and comfort on the road. He shared so much about Hawaiian history, about the names and purposes of the plants/trees/flowers, we stopped at several beautiful and unique local stops for food and locally made goods, he pointed out every single waterfall (had us singing “waterfalllllllll” every time, which is still stuck in my head), taught us a “chant” in Hawaiian. This was what put it over the top for me - all the interesting information about the culture that I would have never learned had we done this on our own. Breakfast was at the very beautiful Maui Tropical Plantation (a very nice way to start the day), we stopped at a beautiful spot and had lunch outside and honored his aunt with the Hawaiian clap song he taught us, and he made a stop at a waterfall for people to swim in. He was also very, very funny and had me laughing many times throughout the trip. Thanks Ikaika for a memorable adventure that my mom and I will always remember. I showed my kids the video of you jumping into the waterfall and they were very impressed! Until next time….thanks again, Margie

I loved all of it. Being able to sit back and enjoy the gorgeous scenery without having to drive the winding road was a pleasure. Louie was our very courteous, professional, yet very fun driver/guide. He embodies the spirit of Aloha . He accommodated our needs to assure a great experience. We learned about past and present history, flora and fauna and some touching stories of the many interesting people who have toured with him before. I think our group may have given him a new story!
The beaches and waterfalls are stunning. The local road stops for snacks were appreciated. And the last stop to see dozens of sea turtles was delightful!

Aloha Peggy! Sounds like you had a great time on tour. We are so glad to hear. Yes I personally love all the foodie stops along the way. It's hard not to pick up something to try at every stop! Louie is definitely an enjoyable guide who loves loves showing his guests a good time! Thank you for taking time to leave a review. We hope to host you again in the future!

Tour was excellent! The road itself is winding, so if you get carsick, just take some precautions in advance, but the drive was worth it. The scenery was amazing and our guide Louie’s stories kept us entertained on the drive up. The beaches where we stopped were beautiful and we loved having the option of eating local for lunch in addition to our sandwiches. The added stop on the way back to watch the surfers also gave us the chance to see sea turtles nesting and the waterfall stop was great. Definitely well-worth the drive.
