Overview
Spot gators, egrets, turtles, and other Louisiana wildlife on a boat tour of the Honey Island Swamp. Cruise through a mossy cypress forest while a professional wetland ecologist shares insight into this protected nature reserve and local Cajun fishing life. You don't need to rent to rent a car to explore the bayou, as pickup from your New Orleans hotel is included.
What to Expect
After convenient pickup at your downtown or French Quarter hotel, leave the bustle of New Orleans behind and travel to the launch point on the West Pearl River, near the shores of Lake Ponchartrain. Board a covered swamp boat that provides protection from the hot Louisiana sun or from rain on stormy days, and make your way into the protected waters of the Honey Island Swamp.

Glide beneath hanging moss and Cypress trees as a wetlands ecologist guide shares info about this unique ecosystem plus local legends of pirates, Bigfoot, and prehistoric creatures. Look out for swamp critters like otters, egrets, nutria, turtles, and alligators during the 2-hour cruise. You’ll also learn about Louisiana's important fishing industry and pass through a typical Cajun fishing village.

Knowledgeable guide. He was great at spotting the wildlife and explaining details.

Pickup at hotel was great. Area was breathtaking. I only wish we could have gone deeper into the bayou. Great tour

Fun, good size boats, more river than swamp

I purposely selected a smaller company for our swamp visit and was happy with the results. This is not a fancy outfit - they take reservations by phone and write your info down on a piece of paper. They do not email you a confirmation,...More

Informative and Fun Tour

I am so glad that I did the tour. Both the ride from my hotel to the boat and the boat ride were extremely informative. The staff are so welcoming. The boat was comfortable and it was so great to see wildlife in their home.

Driver John Gray picked us up from our Hotel’s front door and gave us a great deal of information about Katrina and Louisiana. Our air boat had a great view and we were able to spot several gators, hogs, birds, raccoons, and snakes. Wildlife at...More

I was going to do the same thing but in all honesty the tours book quickly. They run rain or shine and the boats are covered (not that I would want to tour in the rain...lol). My suggestion would be to check the Weather... More

The boat I was on in April held about 14 folks. It was very comfortable seating and everyone had a great view. I liked the boat as it had a canopy top that would protect you from rain and direct sun.
