Overview

Perfect for history lovers, this tour of the historical Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Lower Manhattan invites you into the catacombs, allowing you to see its pipe organ and venture to parts of the building that are normally closed to visitors. Beat the crowds on this small group tour and enjoy a personal encounter with this New York landmark.

What to Expect

Meet your guide at the Tommy’s New York Kiosk at 32 Prince Street and set off for the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. Not to be confused with St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown, this historical church in Lower Manhattan has been a landmark for more than 200 years, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

With just a small group for company, you learn about the church’s history, as well as the famous names who once frequented it (and who still rest in its catacombs), including the first resident bishop of New York City. The tour includes the rare opportunity to explore the catacombs, as well as other areas of the landmark that are normally barred to visitors.

On the tour, discover the church’s pipe organ, tour its two walled cemeteries, explore the choir loft, and more. As you go, your guide will share stories about its place in New York history.

I think she could do it. There some steps involved to enter and leave the catacomb. She can enjoy most of the tour from the wheel chair. She will have to forego the choir loft.
