Embark on a whale-watching cruise with a crew and guides from the San Diego Natural History Museum. Experience the wild California Coast from the comforts of a boat with both indoor and outdoor seating that caters for all weather conditions. Food and drinks are available for purchase and commentary provides insight into the whales' behavior. Plus, if you don't see any whales, you'll be able to take the tour again free of charge.
What to Expect
Choose between a morning or afternoon whale-watching tour from San Diego. Then, find your way to Navy Pier, where you’ll cruise out into the Pacific Ocean on a boat with both indoor or outdoor seating.

Spend 3.5 hours searching for the gray whales that migrate each December through April from the Arctic to warm Mexican breeding grounds. You’ll learn about these whales and their migration from a crew that includes academics from the San Diego Natural History Museum, along with video commentary.

During your cruise along the California Coast, you will likely be treated to other marine species, including seals, seabirds, sea lions, and dolphins. Treat yourself to a drink from the full bar or a snack at the on-board café before you disembark back at Navy Pier.

For me I found this monotonous and boring

Rather large vessel with lots of people we ventured out in to the bay. Didn’t see any actual whales but we did manage to see a spray of water from a whale. The running commentary tries to spice up the event but for me it...More

Many times customer

We've been whale watching (Gray and Blue Whales) with Hornblower for many years. The captains are fantastic, especially Captain Chad. The captains are very knowledgeable on the species of whales, their habits and many other marine wildlife encountered on the multi hour trips. Highly recommend.

Calm and beautiful tour!

We went on a morning cruise to find whales in late March along with our 2 teen children. Our son is prone to motion sickness but usually does well in open air situations and does not like to take medication. We weren't sure how the...More

It was great!

We saw whales, 3 different kinds of dolphins and sea lions. There were people on board that had crafts for the kids to do and they also had some hands on things for the kids also.
