About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- AJNJ440 contributionsUpper Gauley guy’s weekendDrove down from NJ (8 hours) on Friday, rafted Saturday, then turned around and drove 8 hours home on Sunday… because it’s worth it. During the planning of the trip MaryAnn (“MA”) was super helpful and friendly while answering my many questions. Formerly a long time guide she gave many recommendations that ended up making the trip so much more enjoyable. Our guide on the Upper Gauley was Tri who was spot on guiding and was a wealth of information generally. Great sense of humor. Would definitely seek him out next time. We had a group of 6 guys and stayed in one of the Sportsman cabins - perfect for our needs. Not fancy… but neither are we. Ate dinner at Smokey’s the first night and it was very good but a bit more high end than we really needed. Chetty’s on night 2 was more our style - pub food and rafting videos playing on the screens. Rendezvous lounge was hopping with live music each night. Can’t say enough about ‘Adventures on the Gorge’ - great trips and everything you need for a perfect stay is centrally located in one location - walked everywhere. Well done!Written 28 September 2024
- bolanz1200 contributionsMehThis zipline tour would be great for 1st timers; but we have so many amazing tours under our belt (over the alligators in Florida and through the smoky mountains to name a couple) my expectations are just really high. No pictures were taken at all during our tour, and while this may not matter to most people; capturing those memories means everything to me.The first two zips are really short and quick, and the last one (which is why we picked this option) we didn’t get to do bc of a storm in the area. I understand that’s out of the companies control and there are rules to follow; but again when it comes to customer service my expectations are also high, bc we’ve had amazing customer service in a similar situation involving our parasailing getting cancelled d/t weather on a holiday weekend when all remaining spots were full; but they opened a time only for us. I realize a company can’t cater to every person all the time but we were also told we would get a call regarding this matter and never did.Written 25 September 2024

- WvHavekidswilltravel0 contributionsJet boat tour lasted less time than the drive to get therrMy group of four did the jet boat tour. First off the shuttle bus left more than 15 min before the scheduled time. It didn't affect my group but another group missed the bus and ended up on a later ride. Second, the experience was supposed to last 2 hours, it was less than 90 minutes. The shuttle ride there was 30 min. Very curvy bumpy roads, which I didn't mind, but an fyi for anyone that gets car sick. We were on the boat 25 minutes. Then 30 minutes drive back. So $39 seems a bit pricey to me. The fellow doing the boat tour was funny and friendly. The boat has definitely seen better days. Nothing like the pictures on the website.Written 6 September 2024
- ganyon0 contributionsIt was niceWe did the jet boat trip. You took a 25 min. shuttle ride down to the river, sit behind the driver to get awesome views. The jet boat captain was very nice and threw out some jokes. The ride, overall, was nice, but please keep in mind that it is NOT a fast boat ride.Written 2 September 2024
- Keri J0 contributionsMehPros: Hooked up w local activities, phenomenal views, price, on site bar. Cons: Many. Started w check-in when greeted by a disintered staff that was pretty rude. Pool bar was closed during posted hours. Stayed at the rv sites. The site was covered in yellow jackets. When this was reported to the front desk...they acknowledged this was a known issue. Our second night there was a concert. The Gorge vans repeatedly drove through the rv area at at least 30 mph after midnight. Tried getting coffee during advertised hours but the coffee bar was closed. I can't review the guests. But on a 12 day road trip..what stood out here was the total self-centeredness and sense of entitlement of the guests here. Least favorite community. Stay elsewhere and book locally.Written 30 August 2024
- Marge Z0 contributionsJared's Raft Tours are excellent and exciting! His knowledge and expertise made the trip very enjoyable!Adventures on the Gorge is the way to go when visiting the New River Gorge National Park. First time white water rafting and had a great experience. Visited the resort and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about all available trips. Answered all our questions and helped us choose a trip. Choose the Lower New River all day trip that included lunch. Our tour leader JARED was the best! Very experienced and knowledgeable about rafting the New River. Gave us all safety tips and checked our PFD to be sure the fit was correct. Jared told us the name of each rapid, the class and what to expect and how to safely swim out if we fell out. The lunch was great and being able to swim in the river was refreshing. Our tour was videotaped by Hayes, and he did an excellent job capturing us in the rapids. Being able to watch the video after at Chetty's was fun. Would highly recommend requesting JARED to be your tour leader.Written 30 August 2024
- weegans0 contributionsTrip WreckersCalled me after 5p the day before our morning rafting trip to cancel because they did not have enough people. This call should have been made a few days ahead of time to give me a chance to adjust my plans. I was driving to them when I received the call so could not search and book with anyone else or see if my plans from another day could be changed. They had also peppered my inbox with confirmation emails and meeting place changes all week, so I did not suspect there to be any issue with the trip. I met some people at breakfast who used ACE adventure resorts instead and seemed very satisfied and were going out on the morning I was cancelled.Written 25 August 2024

- YiliKR0 contributionsWell worth the activities and stayOur family did two activities - rafting the Lower New River, and the Treetops Canopy tour. Both were great fun. Well organised outfitters and we use them again! We also stayed with AOTG at their RV site and overall they had great facilities and the pool was wonderful with a great view.Written 18 August 2024
- Voyage5919660 contributionsBEST Rafting Trip EVER! Thank you, Doug!!AHHHMAZING! The best rafting trip we have ever done. We have done several rafting trips in several states and this was our favorite by far. Our guide Doug was not only extremely observant of all the personalities on our raft which also included 3 children but to other rafts collectively. It was the BEST day and largely thanks to how Doug planned our navigation and experience. We swam, we floated, we had a great lunch, we got history and water lessons, we got rained on and we still had THE BEST DAY EVER!! We will be back every year and always request Doug! THANK YOU, DOUG!! #surfinWritten 14 August 2024
- RobertSuzanne0 contributionsLoved the water rafting! We enjoyed 3 hours on the New River running class II to class IV rapids. The bus ride to and from the river is fun - lots of security talks on the way and free beer or other drink on the way back. There were times when we were under water through the entire rapid. Scenery is beautiful all along the River. Two places where the guide, Sam Grake, allowed us to jump off the raft and float through the rapid. Very different and fun.Written 12 August 2024
- calebp8770 contributionsamazing overall experience! It was an amazing experience! Our guides name was jared, and he gave us a bunch of history facts along the way as well as being very good at controlling the raft! if you go, ask for jared. and the sportsman cabin we stayed in was very clean and comfortable.Written 12 August 2024
- skibran0 contributionsGo West Virginia! Who knew?Really can't say enough good things about this place. The lodging was clean, quiet. We stayed in the Kaymoor hotel style room cabin. Had a porch with chairs, fire pit, picnic table, looked out on the woods. They had multiple types of lodging available --places for tents, RVs, small cabins like ours, slightly bigger ones and multi bedroom /full kitchen cabins which worked out for the family reunion. The grounds are nice, great views, sunset viewing, nice warm pool, places to get am coffee and snacks, a couple of real restaurants, we ate at Chetty's-good food, helpful staff. The BEST thing though, is the reason you go there--for all the activities they offer (zip lining, horseback riding, kayaking, river whitewater rafting, etc..) and for the surrounding area hiking which is quite good, bridge walk, views of gorge. Loved it!Written 10 August 2024
- Curiosity7495800 contributionsHonest management. We were scheduled for 4 days of fun and pre paid our stay. After 2 days we had a medical problem and had to go back home. We notified the resort office and they refunded 2 days of our trip. Not many places would do this these days. Thank you for your honesty and helping us. We plan to go back soon!Written 5 August 2024

I had never been zip lining before. This activity was super-safe. You'd have to try to get hurt, it was so safe. Shelby and Cullen were excellent guides, and I would recommend this tour to anyone of any skill level or age.

Fun day zip lining! We have zip lined in several states and countries, and this was another great experience! I even got real smiles from our teenage son! Our guides were Mary and Baylee, both fun and informative. We felt safe the whole time and got to see so many gorgeous views! They were always telling us great info about the area and trees, plus answered all our questions. It was 95 degrees when we zipped, so the best was when at the end, they offered ice cold pop and adult beverages!

Spent the day with Lana and Bailey. They were the greatest guides to get our first time zip liner of 10 years old to feel comfortable going. After the brief training she was ready to go. We are a family of 4 two kids 10 and 12. By the 3rd zip she was dropping her right hand to enjoy the ride. The whole family enjoyed our afternoon on the course with a good mix of hiking, skybridges and of course zipping. The last event is a 30 foot rappel, our 10 year old asked to go first and rocked it! Most importantly, it showed the confidence the guides helped to grow that day. They also took the time to also explain the course and the local flora which is much different from our home in WI. Afterwards we hung out with them for a while while cooling down and talking about the day.

Steph and Andy were wonderful guides and Rodney drove us back when we were done. They were professional, fun, and educational. The ziplines went over a beautiful creek. The sun wasn't a factor since the ziplines are in the trees. There are also some nice bridges and a cool rappel at the end of the course. Our 12 year old daughter had never been ziplining and had a great time. Special thanks to Steph, Andy, and Rodney for being awesome! We highly recommend this outing.

Awesome adventure with Lana and Andrew @ Adventures on The Gorge. This was our daughter's first zipline adventure and she can't wait to do it again! We loved every minute and all the knowledge they shared about the flora and fauna in the forest.
