- Vls920 contributions"Cry Witch: A Mesmerizing Journey Through Colonial Justice"Attending the "Cry Witch" trial in Colonial Williamsburg was a captivating experience from start to finish. The anticipation built as we joined a queue at 8:30, with a sold-out crowd eagerly awaiting entry to the courtroom. The meticulous organization placed the first 12 attendees as the governor's council and the subsequent ten as jurors, setting the stage for an authentic colonial trial atmosphere. The focus of the trial on Grace Sherwood, accused of witchcraft, added an intriguing historical element. The acting by those involved in the trial was nothing short of amazing, maintaining historical accuracy and truly immersing us in the theatrics of the era. The attention to detail brought the courtroom proceedings to life, allowing my husband and me to feel transported back in time. Undoubtedly, this experience became the highlight of our visit to Colonial Williamsburg. The commitment to recreating the atmosphere of the past made "Cry Witch" an unforgettable and educational performance. - 212Moree0 contributionsStep Back in TimeLots to see here. Get ready for a ton of walking. My husband and I logged 7 miles. The day started out rainy so there wasn't much of a crowd which allowed us to take our time and visit many of the shops and read about the buildings. We opted for lunch at the King's Arms tavern and were seated right away. I can imagine the situation is very different on a sunny day. We spoke with brick makers, carpenters and store keepers. They are all very knowledgable about the history and willing to share bits and pieces along the way. If you are a history buff this is for you.Written 31 December 2023

- 346gretchens0 contributionsA must see!Wonderful, unique experience. The area and the tour guides. We came during Thanksgiving weekend. Spent 2 days on the site. Our favorite was the tour guides and the narrators. They were very polished, and I was amazed at how well they interface with everyone from 2 to 92 years old. Their knowledge, trivia recall, and stories were amazing. The costumes were very well done. My only criticism was the lack of 18th-century artesian. It could be due to Thanksgiving weekend. The last time I was here, many of the artisans could be seen working their trade and selling their goods. Most of the goods I saw in the Colonial Williamsburg historical were made in China. All the shops mostly sold the same goods. I had always enjoyed purchasing local unique gifts. This week I only purchased books.Written 26 November 2023

It gave us plenty of time to complete everything in Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Absolutely awesome to walk up to all the different ticket counters, show our Ticket and get a Sticker to see everything. Loved all the homes we got to visit in Colonial Williamsburg. Had a very nice Lady show us around the Jail, loved all the info we got from the Silversmith and soooo much more. A Trip we will never forget!Written 11 November 2023
- Sarah B0 contributionsRude actorWe were following our GPS when the GPS brought us into colonial Williamsburg. We were not aware that you could not drive through because there was no signing where we pulled in that you cannot. Once we figured it out we stopped by a lady who we thought would help us out. The actor went on to yell at us and belittle us. As I said we were not aware and she would not hear us out. In the photo below, I will show that there was no barricade and no signage telling us not to enter.Written 1 November 2023
- moemsw990 contributionsSpend the day!We LOVE Colonial Williamsburg! We have been at least 8 times over the years and we were excited to be here again. With some recent mobility issues and health changes, I knew my husband wouldn’t be able to do the walking it requires. We wanted to enjoy the ambiance of the village. We decided to go and just buy a hop on hop off bus ticket and spend the day in the village, maybe have lunch or a cocktail. It didn’t matter if we went inside the buildings we’ve seen most in the past. To our surprise, the women at the information desk said, the bus is now free to everyone! You do not have to buy a ticket to ride the bus. We were thrilled. Off we went to spend the beautiful fall day in the village. We had a wonderful time and were able to talk to many locals and visitors. We saw a musket demonstration. The horses and carriages were clip clopping by as we sat on a bench enjoying an ice cream cone. What amazed us were the number of scooters being used and how easily they drove on the dirt rode. We never gave it a thought, of course they’d have scooters to rent even if you don’t own your own. We never inquired but, don’t hesitate if walking is an issue. Colonial Williamsburg has you covered! The buses even have the ramps and the driver helps you on and gets you all secured and your scooter all secured in place. We had the nicest friendliest driver both morning and night. Go to the village, enjoy all they have to offer. Outside demonstrations, beautiful shops, great buildings and crafts people are excited to have you there. It’s after their busy season, so many buildings weren’t open and the taverns were closed until later in the day but the village was a hopping busy place and we had a wonderful day!Written 30 October 2023

We bought advanced tickets for June 30th & 31st 2020. Also purchased were tickets for July 2, 2020 7pm ghost tour. June 30th more than 1/2 of the park and exhibits were still closed due to State Covid guidelines. It was disappointing, we definitely felt like we should have been charged 1/2 price in all fairness due to lack of things to see & do.
The evening of the ghost tour I called not once but twice from our hotel to confirm if the tour would be cancelled due to inclement weather. We were told the tour would continue as the storm was moving away from Colonial Williamsburg. Upon arrival we were told the tour was cancelled. It was sunny with blue skies at the time.
We waited at the CB bus stop to return to our car and the bus driver drove right past us leaving us standing at the bus stop!
Our overall opinion of how CB is run is not a good one. They lack cohesiveness and customer service is subpar. This attraction is disorganized not worth the money .

My family and I purchased America's Historic Triangle Ticket which allowed us entry into Colonial Williamsburg along with Jamestown and Yorktown facilities for seven days. Unfortunately, we could only visit for a short time. I wish our vacation had been longer.
The ticket agent at the visitor's center gave us a map of Colonial Williamsburg and told us some of the things that were happening the day we were visiting. I wish more stuff had been opened. It seems that only a few venues are open on certain days. Some places that were open made us wait until the people ahead of us had cleared out. Other things we wanted to do (Carriage Ride, restaurant) were already booked for the day.
We did get to visit the Courthouse, the African American Religion Exhibit, the Armory, the Joinery, the Capitol, and the Governor's Palace. All of us thought the Capitol tour was the most interesting. The historian did an excellent job. At the Courthouse and the Governor's Palace we had a hard time hearing because of the acoustics.
Overall we enjoyed are visit (except for the hot and humid weather). The Triangle ticket is worth it if you have multiple days to visit. If you are only visiting for a few hours, I would not bother with any tickets and just walk around taking in the atmosphere and talking to the actors who are walking around the town.

We love Colonial Williamsburg! Since Colonial Williamsburg is really a living history museum, you’ll be immersed in the 18th Century. First things first, walking around Colonial Williamsburg is an absolute treat. You may be greeted by Thomas Jefferson or even stopped by George Washington. These historic interpreters, known as Nation Builders, portray historical figures. The Nation Builders are wonderful to talk to and indeed keep in character.
While it’s free to walk around Colonial Williamsburg, you’ll need a ticket to go inside many of the buildings. If there is a colonial flag outside the building, a ticket is required.
If you’re looking for discounted tickets to Colonial Williamsburg, consider staying on property.
Get a schedule of events from your hotel. The Fife & Drum March is not to be missed and kids LOVE it!
Download the free Colonial Williamsburg App before your trip. You can search restaurants, purchase admission tickets and even book a carriage ride. Also, the app provides coupons and discounts.
Parking at the Visitor’s Center is free.
If you arrive later in the day to Colonial Williamsburg, consider walking throughout the area to familiarize yourself with the overall layout. By doing so, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running the following morning.
We also really enjoyed the Junior Ghost Tour. Just "spooky" enough to be a lot of fun, but not too scary for younger kids. The tour guide was fantastic!

Fantastic amount of history given by great costumed natives. Full of history and culture, would highly recommend to visit. Even with Covid19 going on, the place is full of life and things to see. I would not recommend a child under 3 or 4 to go on the tours inside as they stop a lot to give information and children can get cranky.

What better time to visit this special and historic place than the 4th of July? Yes, we decided to come for the Independence Day celebrations, and we were not alone.
The town was quite busy and almost all of the exhibits were open. It was also extremely hot, so I salute the staff in their colonial outfits who performed in uncomfortable weather.
Of course we bought the entry tickets, because the prices are quite reasonable, and we wanted to go inside the famous buildings like the Palace, the Capitol, the houses and the shops. Also we are supporting the upkeep of this important American treasure.
We have visited the site several times in the past, and we did notice that fewer places were functioning, somewhat due to the recovery from the covid virus. Finding a place to eat can be a challenge. We were able to eat dinner in the Kings Arms tavern, do the musket shooting, and tour almost the whole town.
The fireworks display was a fun and festive event, although it was a long walk back to the Visitors' Center.

To be sure we had a chance to see everything, we dedicated two and a half days of our trip to Williamsburg. People say that some buildings and activities are still closed due to COVID and they are correct. Some of the taverns are closed, some of the trade locations are shut down and most of the restaurants have very limited hours. So please call and plan ahead. Basically, things aren't quite right yet. That being said, we had an amazing time. We stayed at the Williamsburg Inn which really does offer close proximity to the historic area (2 blocks). If you like colonial buildings Williamsburg offers numerous photo opportunities you just can't turn down. Although there were a few areas like right in front of the Governers Palace that were being excavated by heavy machinery so a nice photo was impossible. The interpretive characters were present (even during the week) and really made the experience come alive. The clothes shop in particular was fantastic. We really wanted a hat for my son and this appeared to be the best place to get one. We had to wait about a half-hour for anyone to acknowledge our presence (:(, but when he did the hat maker helped my son pick out a handmade custom hat you couldn't get anywhere else in the district. The lady in the Capitol building was equally as engaging and knowledgeable about her subjects. We even got to see George Washington riding down D G street on his horse. Even the museums offered something in terms of artwork and artifacts. Then there were the sheep we saw grazing in the fields. If you go this summer it will be hot, but trust me when I say you will be glad you did.

We went Colonial Williamsburg in May 2021. Was it a neat place? Yes. Did we get our money's worth? Absolutely not. I sent an email after our visit letting them know how disappointed we were and never got a response.
You can walk all around Colonial Williamsburg without paying anything. You can go into the shops without paying anything. I didn't find any restaurants open the day we went, but I'm guessing you could eat in them without an admission ticket. The tickets were for the presentations and building tours. A majority of the building were closed, so we couldn't have gone in if we wanted to. The ones that were open had super long lines (due to COVID restrictions) to get in (like an hour or more), so we didn't do any house tours. We went to one outdoor presentation, which was very well done.
I want people to know that you can experience the town without paying anything. If you do decide to pay admission, make sure that the vast majority of the buildings are actually open and that you won't have to wait outside in hour-plus lines just to get into a building. If you don't get positive answers on what is actually open, save your money and wander the town for free.

Even during the pandemic they are making an effort to expose you to all classes of colonial like. The trades people may not have their small shops open but they have them in other locations. Take advantage of Meet a Nation Builder on Charlton stage - we had 30+ min of the Marquis de Layfayette - and he was worth the price of admission alone. We also paid for the walking tour and got 45+ min with Abrahm, a slave in the Wythe household. So you see like from all perspectives. The good news about it being reduced capacity, closed attractions, and limited tours (first floor only) is that you can accomplish it in one day.

You can't advertise that your open to the public, and only provide 20% of the attraction for the full price of admission. It's like going to bush gardens and only the bumper cars are working. The streets are still full of tourists/ suckers, but it's not going to last long. Even what they have open today could only support 100-200 guests giving them a half decent experience. They blame it on covid, but until they expierence smaller crowds and bad reviews there not going to change anything. Less exhibits, less maintenance, and less staff.

You need several days to see all of what this living museum has to offer. You can enjoy listening to and interacting with superb character interpreters. I love the special programs they have at Christmas. Take time to speak to the various interpreters and you will be amazed at what you can learn! I have been coming here for 35 years and learn something new each time.

Many people had their dogs with them on site. Dogs are not allowed in the venues. There may also be specific exhibit areas that would not be animal friendly. Be prepared to take turns outside some venues caring for the dogs. Also, I'm not sure if animals are allowed on the free bus transportation around the village.

It is a bit young for them to fully grasp the History but there are plenty of activities that they will enjoy. You can even call and ask for some recommendations. Their website has a calendar you can pull up a couple of months in advance to see the daily activities. We have been there over 40 times and see and learn new things every time. Give yourself at least 3 full days there to even scratch the surface. Wish we could make all students spend a week there!

I suggest the 3-day pass to Colonial Williamsburg because it will take you at least that long if you want to see everything. Some of the tours are not given every day - especially on Monday and Tuesday. So I suggest that your pass include a Friday so that you are sure everything is open on the days you visit.

I would purchase online... why? because you turn in the voucher you print for an actual ticket there but you are in an EXPEDITED line... goes fast since you prepaid and turn in the voucher. it went very smoothly so I would definitely suggest doing that. enjoy.. lots to see there!
