    The 3-hour tour begins when you are picked up from your departure point by a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your tour guide Rick Britton is award-winning historian and he will give you all the facts of the historical sites that you will see. The highlights include the Court Square Slave Block, where infamous slave auctions took place. Continue on to see The University of Virginia, what once was the headquarter of the Confederate General Hospital. Then on to Rio Hill, the site of Albermarle County's only clash of arms.

    A historian of the Old Dominion, Rick Britton specializes in 18th and 19th-century Virginia history and is a historian of the Old Dominion. His areas of expertise include the American Civil War, the life and times of Thomas Jefferson, and the history of the central Piedmont. He will also teach you how Charlottesville helped the Confederate war efforts during the American Civil War and visit the region’s only Civil War battlefield, and hear of the surrender of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia.

    Rick Britton, our guide, is a natural storyteller. He also did a great job of tailoring the tour to our existing knowledge of the background and context in covering the events that happened locally. We could have happily spent all day with him.
