Overview
The biggest reason Charleston visitors skip a visit to Magnolia Plantation is because of transportation logistics—an excuse this tour easily solves. Travel directly from downtown Charleston to Magnolia Plantation, and then tour the grounds. Your entrance fee is covered, too, so you can get straight to seeing the historic house and grounds.
Highlights
  • Guided tour of Magnolia Plantation grounds and house
  • Transportation from downtown Charleston solves transport logistics
  • Glean insight into the area’s rich history from your guide
  • Entrance fee is already included so you don’t have any extra expenses
What to Expect
Meet your guide at the Charleston Visitors Center, right in the middle of historic downtown Charleston. Board an air-conditioned coach and enjoy views of the rolling Lowcountry landscape as you make the 45-minute drive to Magnolia Plantation, one of the oldest plantations in the South. When you reach the plantation, head right past the entrance gate—the entrance fee is already accounted for in the tour price. Then, board a tram for a narrated 45-minute ride through the grounds: see slave cabins, swamps, and rice fields. Next, take a guided walk through the garden, before finally heading to the Drayton Plantation for a tour of the grand historic home. Tour concludes with drop-off at your original starting point.

We toured 3/20/2020. Trip advisor states not available (probably due to Corona virus) but we were able to tour the grounds. The azaleas were in full bloom so the grounds were gorgeous. Definitely a great day!

Alan was awesome! He’s very funny and knowledgeable and we got to see the gorgeous Magnolia plantation (from the house tour and the gorgeous gardens to the tram tour which was full of gator-sightings- I don’t know which part was best!) as well as historic downtown Charleston!

Magnolia Plantation was a fun excursion...the grounds & gardens were beautiful. The house tour wasn't as extensive as had hoped. Our tour driver, Shawn was great...full of info about the area & Drayton descendants. A little pricey though.

Shawn, our tour guide was great and gave us a lot of interesting information on the way to the plantation. We were a bit disappointed in the plantation. It was basically just a lot of overgrown trees, the house wasn’t very impressive, and the whole place seemed a bit run down. I
