Highlights
  • Learn about local history from your professional guide
  • See Multnomah Falls, the second-tallest waterfall in the US
  • Check out the fish ladder at Bonneville Dam
What to expect
  • Your trip begins early in downtown Portland, where you'll embark via coach for the drive through Columbia River Gorge. Enjoy spectacular views as the sun crests the Cascade Mountains and lights up the Gorge’s protected landscape.  As your coach travels along the river, you'll admire the natural and cultural sights, from rare plants and wildlife to geological wonders and ancient Indian rock art. Your expert guide will narrate the journey, providing historical context to the present-day surroundings. Climb high above the valley to the Vista House at Crown Point for unparalleled views that have been enjoyed by travelers to this site since 1916. Take plenty of photos from this panoramic viewpoint before heading back down into the National Scenic Area, where you'll stop at Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, and the famous Multnomah Falls. Known as the second-tallest in the US, Multnomah Falls never dries up, even in the hot summer months. So a great picture can always be taken from Benson Bridge! Next, your trip continues to Bonneville Dam, a masterpiece of modern engineering that provided hydropower to the Gorge since the 1930s. During your stop here, learn about the challenging construction process and admire the grandeur and juxtaposition of industry combined with nature. Your trip back to Portland tracks the trail of the famous explorers Lewis and Clark, touching on key points from their expedition over 200 years ago such as Beacon Rock, Rooster Rock, and Cape Horn.  Your tour ends back in Portland by early afternoon.

Summary: This is a great scenic and informative tour if you don't have a lot of time (or your own car) and want to experience some of the beauty of Oregon not far away from the city! Worth the price for sure!

I didn't have my own car while visiting Portland, but I still wanted to see some of the beautiful outdoors not far off. After researching my options, though I don't often do tours, I signed up for the Gray Line half-day tour of the Falls and Gorge. It helped that one of the pickup points was very convenient to me, since 8:30 is painfully early when I'm on vacation.

The bus was clean, comfortable, and perfectly air conditioned for the summer weather. Our tour guide Brian shared great history and also took great pics!

I would have loved to have more time to do a longer hike, but this tour was a useful introduction so I know what's worth coming back to!

Brian Sweeney was very courteous, helpful and friendly. The tour bus was clean and the seating comfortable. Most of all, however, was the knowledge base of Brian. He knew every little detail about “everything” - the city, weather, demographics and every important detail about the tour. Where to stand for the best view and what to look for at each site. Amazing! You want be disappointed. If you have the opportunity to ride his bus, don’t hesitate. Be sure to leave a generous tip, it was worth it.

This is the way to go if you have 5 hours. You see some beautiful scenic country side. Mae was our tour guide and she was fabulous. She had info about everything you can think of. It was such fun and didn't want the day together to end. This is worth the money. Love it

We were in town for the long weekend for a wedding. And took this tour Sunday.
Our driver's enthusiasm was contagious. Obviously a proud (but not boastful) Portlander; he shared his vast knowledge and best approach on the sites visited. En route he effused by sharing stories about the people, geography, history, philosophies and political atmosphere of the area. His stories reflected the vibe of the city and its people and helped me define why my teens and I had enjoyed our short but memorable stay in Portland so much.

This morning half day tour is a MUST do if you are in the area! Brian was a FABULOUS driver/tour guide/photographer! He did it all! We stopped at two different falls, he advised on the places to take the best photos and even took them for all of us! The fish hatchery, Bonneville dam, Vista House were all just amazing and he gave a great running commentary! The views of the Gorge were awesome. You must got to Multnomah Falls in the morning, the afternoons are too crowded. I cannot say enough goo things about this tour or about Brian!!

Going out to the gorge & multnomah falls is a must if you are in Portland, it really shows off a beautiful part of the area. There are obviously lots of tours that go out there and I’m sure most do the same route. I think what sets any apart will be the driver/tour guide & ours was superb. Brian was a wealth of information & provided some really interesting facts about the area. All in all a great half day tour which I’d definitely recommend. Note it is a bus not a small tour van but we were lucky enough to only have 8 on the bus the day we did it which was great. Brian was also an excellent driver & even though I don’t usually like bus trips I felt safe and at ease. They also offer a phone charger which is an added bonus.

Great tour at a great price! Brian was our driver and guide. He was informative and helpful. He even offered to help take pictures. The bus has a small charging station for a few phones. Comfortable seating. Windows could be cleaner (water stains on glass). Overall, worth the time and cost. Would recommend.

We made the choice because the lowest price of the tours provided the most minutes of touring with the added bonus of a full-sized touring bus. We experienced more than we expected. Our driver provided interesting facts during the drive out of the city and continued into the scenic drive. Brian continued helping us with information and direction at each of our stops. He even became our photographer with our cameras! At one location, he went way above and beyond to creating fun, special pictures. He added a stop at Latourell Falls that provided the highlight of the tour. Parking scarcity prevents him on most trips; we probably lucked out since we went on the slowest day: Wednesday.
