- Travel162583792890 contributionsExcellent collection in a beautiful setting. Don't miss it.The museum is located in a corner Victorian mansion that itself is an interesting visit. The collection is very impressive... beautifully displayed in great casework beginning with a survey of Remington's life and continuing with a large collection of his paintings and his sculptures. Learned a lot about the man and his art... so much more than just a painter and illustrator of Western scenes. The docents were very informative, eager to share information about Remington. The best work, all by Remington, are on the first floor. Second floor galleries are expanding the reach of the museum to include other artists and work by young artists. Nice museum store on the first floor.Written 6 May 2024
- PhoenixRobin0 contributionsImpressiveI’m not a huge fan of Remington, but was impressed none the less. Not only did the museum have several of the more recognizable sculptures, but also Remington’s oil paintings, watercolors, pen and ink and pieces from the Remington’s personal collection including Tiffany lamps. Some of the upstairs rooms had works from local artists. We spent about an hour. You could spend 1-1/2 hours easily.Written 1 June 2023
- Karen P0 contributionsA Frederic Remington fan's dream come trueIf you love Remington's work, this museum is for you. I had never seen so many of his works in one place before. Just wonderful. I was not aware he was also an artist, so it was a treat to view his art. A docent started us off telling us some of his history, which I appreciated. If you have the money, you can purchase one his sculptures. Sadly, all I could afford was a T-shirt. This museum is clearly a hidden gem. It's about a 45 minute drive from Alexandria Bay.Written 30 August 2020
- cuse5180 contributionsNice VisitMany original works of the Western artist. Interesting story of his life and how he worked. I would say less than 2 hours for visit.Written 29 August 2020
- Karen D0 contributionsThis is THE Remington MuseumYou won't know Remington until you visit this museum. You'll never get closer to his jaw-dropping sculptures and paintings...it's a personal experience. Museum not only honors Remington but also the history of the Parish house/family and their contributions to Ogdensburg's and US history. There was also an exhibit of local artists when we visited. Super, welcoming and knowledgeable staff from reception to the maintenance guy. Extremely enjoyed our visit!Written 26 September 2019
- jt-mj0 contributionsA must if you are anywhere near Ogdensburg.Excellent collection of sculptures and material about Frederic Remington's life and works. Small exhibit showing the steps involved in producing the castings. Very knowledgeable staff.Written 12 September 2019
- Trave111ng0 contributionsA must see in Ogdensburg!Let me start by saying I am not artistic and do not usually go to art galleries. In fact, my daughter was shocked when I told her where we were headed! This art museum, housed in a stately old home, displays the largest collection of Remington's art work and sculptures in the world. His use of paint colour to depict nighttime scenes was breathtaking. The facial expressions in his paintings and sculptures is very realistic; some of the paintings look 3D. This museum is interesting, and no matter your appreciation of art, you will marvel at this man's creativity.Written 13 May 2019
- StanleyandMarie0 contributionsWow - amazing works of art and venue! We have been to this area many times, but this was our first visit to this museum and we were very impressed. The young docent that took our admission fee offered to give us some history and we were glad we listened - great overview to start our visit. We were so amazed by how much this man did in such a short lifetime....from paintings to sculptures, we loved it all. We also enjoyed the upstairs to see some of the artifacts from the benefactors of the home that holds the museum along with some of the budding artists from the area. Well done - an enjoyable 1 1/2 hours!Written 25 April 2019
- Robert Z0 contributionsThe American West in bronzeMy visit to the Frederic Remington Art Museum was an impromptu stop that my spouse added to one of our many road trips. Our first stop on this particular trip had been made to Corning, New York, to view the well known Corning Glass Museum. From Corning it was about a five hour drive north to Ogdensburg. Since our road trip included exploring places of interest in the state of New York before heading on into Canada, it was well worth the stop in Ogdensburg not only to stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat, but to see and learn something new. For one who enjoys art of all forms, I left the Frederic Remington Art Museum with a new perspective molded in my mind of the American west in bronze — a view I had not before admired nor appreciated. Remington's art on display is impressive for its contextual detail in recounting American history. In addition to the artist's impressive bronze statues, his collection of works includes oil paintings, watercolors and sketches depicting scenes of America's Western Frontier. As most museums, the building does have a gift shop. Street parking was accessible when we visited. Best to check online for current entrance fees, hours of operation and special exhibits. My favorite art by Remington: his statutes in bronze, of course!Written 31 March 2019
- steve p0 contributionsWonderfulWent for the first time to the museum for a Wine, Beer & Food Festival. Was really surprised what a wonderful venue! Beautiful building & Remington works displayed throughout the 3 buildings connected to the museum. Absolutely worth the visit.Written 3 February 2019
- Deb H0 contributionsNational treasure of the North Country ... World ClassI recall vividly my reaction the first time I saw “Coming Through The Rye”, I was simply blown away. Remington captures not only human emotions but animal emotions too. The staff and ambassadors are knowledgeable and passionate about the artworks, so take advantage of their assistance and their scheduled interpretations and discussions. A real people place with amazing works of art.Written 15 January 2019
- elliottderk0 contributionsIf you like Western Art - You need to go to this museum! This is a great little town that shouldn't be missed. As it sits along the mighty Saint Lawrence River between New York and Canada. The real gem here is the Frederic Remington Art Museum of Western Art. A cozy in town diner about a block away provides a great place to catch a bite to eat.Written 16 October 2018
- David W0 contributionsan excellent museumthis is a museum i have wanted to visit for years. i am from tulsa, home of the gilcrease museum, a very special museum of western art and history with many beautiful remington and russell pieces, so this was an obvious next stop for me. the village of ogdensburg is such a nice place. when i arrived at the museum i found it to be absolutely beautiful and well kept. the collection is displayed so well and the docents are very glad to share their knowledge with you. they are very proud of their museum and truly realize how special it is. even if you don't know much about remington, this is worth a visit. you will not be disappointed.Written 3 October 2018
- islanderuu0 contributionsA Highlight of Ogdensvurg-don't Miss it!A wonderful museum exhibiting models and actual sculptures, art work, sketches & the history of Frederic Remington. The guide was most helpful telling us about the three rooms tha contained so many wonderful peces.Written 27 August 2018
- Don W0 contributionsNot only bronze castingsHaving visited decades earlier, we did a short detour to reintroduce ourselves and friends to the multiply talents of Fredrick Remington. A large, very well maintained and displayed collection of oils, watercolor and cast bronze artistry. Greeted by a friendly and informative museum director, she took the time to explain the highlights of the museum offerings and answered a multitude of questions we had for her. A slow, meandering walk took under 2 hours, but we all left with a better understanding of Remington and the talents he had beyond his widely known bronze castings.Written 24 August 2018

This was a discovered gem while cross border shopping.
An hour well spent. Did think $10 admission was a little over priced...but you're there right.

Passed it by for years on our way to Montreal, and this time made the well rewarded divert. Most excellent, friendly staff, easy to find, easy street parking.
The collection, paintings, sculptures, and house furnishings, is well displayed and uncrowded. Provides an enlightening experience and a reminder of a past era. The quiet uncrowded museum gives you time to reflect and appreciate. Really glad we stopped, and recommend it.

Four of us went to this museum during a short stay in the 1000 Islands area of NY. We learned a lot about the artist, his life and his work in both oils and sculpture. He was from the 1000 Islands area, which surprised us because we think of him as a western artist. There was a docent in the areas where Remington's paintings and sculpture are located, who was very knowledgeable about both the artist and the technique of casting in bronze. I think you'll be delighted at this museum as well.

Learned a lot about Remington and the time period. The docents are eager to share their knowledge. The downstairs was more enjoyable than the upstairs (to us).

Loved this museum. The fact that it was in their home made it even greater. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. There was a great amount of his works on display as well. Would recommend this museum.

I tried to get two tickets for August 4 but was told there is no availability. Is the museum closed or are all the tours that day already reserved?
